Well, I was awake so I thought I would do some 'surfing' and check out a possible new buy.

Now as I have mellowed a little over the last few years, I tend to look more favourably towards single shot firearms. And as I already have one of their rifles, a 1885 BPCR in .45/70, I was considering another in maybe .38/55.

The last catalogue I saw of theirs had a good range of these rifles including one in either .38/55 or .30/30.

Well, I surfed their sites this a.m. and can find no mention of these rifles and the site search 'engine' turns up a blank as well.

Have they dropped this line due to competition from other brands or are the details and other info buried deep in some dim dark hole somewhere? [smilie=1:

It's a pity because they are a distinct rifle on their own.

Bigjohn, I believe they're now labeled USRA, or Winchester, after Browning and the Winchester label were bought by European interests. I googled browning winchester 1885 and came up with some good hits.

There must be something wrong with my search engine, I can only turn up one reference to Winchester and it's in 3006.

I hear UBERTI have one on the market? Are they any good?

I have heard the Uberti 1885s were decent value for the money.

They also don't appear to be easy to find outside of highwalls in 45/70. I too have an interest in an 1885 in a 30-30, 30-40 or 38-55. Uberti used to catalog them (Cimarron Arms still might) but apparently didn't import many of them to the US. Spoke about it with the local dealer today and the only thing listed in the current Uberti catalog are highwalls in 45/70, 45/90 and 45/120. Most of those were back ordered and they won't send him any unless he places a minimum order for $5k worth of Ubertis.

Heres the link to the 1885s on Cimarrons Arms site http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/SingleShotRifles/1885LowWall.htm#

If you follow up with them let us know what you find out regarding actual availability.

What about Buffalo Arms? They list a line of Uberti Cimmarron High and Low Walls.

I have been meaning to give them a call.

Check with Forbes (Wholesale or Firearms, can't remember the exact name). They are the Pedersoli distributors her in beautifull sunny australia. They have those long strip ads in most gunmags. Mick.
