I have a Pedersoli rolling block rifle for some time now and have been having trouble getting cast loads to shoot in it well. I have been using several boolits in the 150 to 175 gr range without getting groups smaller than around 3 inches at 100 yards with it. Yesterday I tried a new load consisting of a Lyman 311299 200 gr boolit cast from WW and lubed with 50-50 alox and beeswax with at gas check. I seated the boolits to the base of the neck and used 18 gr of IMR 4198 and a styrofoam filler. Results were great with 10 shot groups running in the 1.5 to 2 inch range. I fired four 10 shot groups and they averaged 1.65 inches. These were fired from cross sticks as I use this rifle for long range cowboy competition and wanted to see how the load did. I was so pleased that I plan to try this load out at 200 yards as soon as I can find time to reload the empties.:Fire:

Sounds like you have your 30-30 dailed in NickSS...I have a Uberti Low Wall in the same cal. but have not had the time to load/shoot it...I'm wondering about your styrofoam filler...do you use beads or wads?...how about compression?...thanks for any info......:)

That 18.0 gr. load shoots well in my .308 Win. also.

Extremely accurate.

NickSS,

Sounds like your previous loads had too much jump to do well. Try this and see if it improves- Seat the boolit to the lands, then seat .020 deeper. Should work with the 150gr or 175gr, the single shot can be seated out as far as the gun will allow, and it will tell you what it likes.

Have Fun Shooting,
Jon

The styrofoam filler is nothing more than shipping peanuts that I put in an old blender and chop up. I just added it until it was at the bottom of the neck over my powder charge. I will try loading lighter bullets out as well.
