I'm planning to see if I can make my old Long Lee Enfield shoot. I will be trying cast bullets in the 185-215 gr range. Consulting old loading manuals shows frequent reference to IMR 4227 and 4759 as well as 2400. What seems to be the favourites these days? Where I live, it's easier to get the IMR powders than other kinds.
Thanks

I'm pertty new to shooting boolits out of my Enfields, but Ive had good results with around 16gr of 2400. So far I've used it in my P14 and 1917 No. 1 Rifle. Still playing with the windage on my 1919 Lithgow.

It is hard to go wrong with 4759 in the 303 or other midsized cases. If I had to pick amongst the three powders you list, that would certainly be my first choice.

I've had good results with 4895...either H or IMR...under the Lee 185-grainer with a dacron fill. Start around 29-30 grains and work up in 1/2 gr. increments. 32.5 gr. pushes that boolit to around 1850 fps from my #1Mk4 (Longbranch) and produces consistent 3"-3 1/2" iron-sight groups @ 100 yds.

Thanks to all. I think I'll start with the 4759 and progress to the 4895 if I want something with a little more zip.

I use IMR4227 myself. 18.5 grains pushing the Lyman 314299. I figure about 1700fps.

SR4759 is a great powder for the medium sized cases. Doesn't measure as well as some others but The results are usually very good. I don't use a filler with this.

I'm gonna try Trail Boss in one of mine in the new year.
185 grain cast bullet that'll be paper patched.
