.............Went well. Naturally they had to have it in Las Vegas 240 miles from home. I am NOT a Las Vegas guy and not one who has to go there a couple times a year. Being the father of the bride and true to my nomal MO I maintained a low profile. I went where I was told to go and did what I was told to do. We were all at the MGM Grand which is a nice place. We got there Friday afternoon and as I'd been at work all night Thursday I went to bed and got about 5 hours sleep. The wedding was Saturday at 3:30 in the afternoon.

I guess it was about 8PM several of us including Christian and Bobby (her intended) took off and did some touristing. There is a new monorail system connecting several of the newer hotels/casinos so for $3 we rode that to see what it was like. Several of the newer places have elevated pedestrian crosswalks across Las Vegas Bl. It's almost like one huge complex.

We ended up at New York New York, across from the MGM and these newer places remind me more of a theme park then anything else. Spent most of the evening until about 3AM in a pub called Nine Fine Irishmen and had a good time. In fact everyone there was having a good time! Had I have been single and younger it would have been even wilder. Women are lots different, act lots different, and dress lots different :D

Saturday both mothers were were a bit wound up so in a defenseive mode, us 2 dad's, Bobby and a couple of his uncles and friends went down to one of the lounges in the casino and had a few Bloody Marys to get pepped back up. We had Bobby pretty relaxed after awile.

Due to Bobby's Sheriff Academy's date being changed the wedding had been moved from October up to June. As a consequence my parents and middle brother couldn't attend because of stuff they'd already had planned, such as my younger brother's middle daughter getting married (up in Oregon) the same day. So for Christian it was us and 6 of her friends. On Bobby's side about the entire clan was there. I'd guess maybe 40 people.

His family is pretty cool. His dad is a captain in the San Bernardino County Sheriff's dept and a great guy, and Bobby has several uncles, so there are lots of cousins. Some live up in Montana and a bunch are hunters and fish. Several have 5th Wheel trailers and such. One cousin was upset about the re-introducement of wolves and the problems they're causing. Many hunting and fishing stories. In fact his dad and an uncle were both wearing Bass Pro Shops 'T' shirts, and another was wearing a Cabelas when we were in the lounge.

One of his uncles is a bit of a wild man and was up about $6K in the casino and was all over me to go with him. My luck pretty much runs in the opposite direction so it's not as much fun for me! I did win $73 in a slot machine while we were there, but I don't recall how much I spent out of the measely $100 I'd set aside as my gambleing limit. I didn't bring any of it home though!

The wedding itself was very nice, and was simple. The minister did a good job and the entire family seemed to enjoy it. Christian and Bobby had a suite and the reception was held there. His family had brought all the drinks and mixers and the bathtub had been filled with ice for the beer, and there were a few ice chests also. Since the bar was in the bathroom if you needed to use one for it's intended purpose there were several room cards of family member's available to go use their's:-) Many of them were staying till Sunday, but Donna and I were leaving Sat evening so we'd checked out at 1 PM.

Donna got a call from a friend today that a bunch had gone to Studio 54 and partied till 5 this morning. I'm sure glad we left to come home at 8 Sat night. I'm just not up for that stuff and truth be known, I'm sure that Bobby and Christian would have just as well been better off if everyone had left when we did. I understand that they weren't among the revelers at 0500, but had left MUCH earlier.

I'm glad that THAT is over! I've never gone to Las Vegas just to go. I've been back and forth through it many times on hunting trips to Utah and Colorado and that has been fun. But to just go for it's sake alone would be a major sensory overload for this old boy.

Hey, there, Buckshot!

Hoo Wee!

That was quite some deal you went through regardless of your "minor" participation.

The $3 fee for the monorail is new to me, it was free when I was there, but that was the last few days of December in 1999. Even though it costs now, it is still pretty cheap.

Well, since the wedding is done and everybody has split, there is no sense in planning a shivery for the newlyweds!

Congratulations to the happy couple. Sounds like you have new out-laws that are going to be friends.

Concur on Las Vegas. I had to go to a couple of Exxon conventions there and hated it. The dumb oil company would tie us up all day long, then release us to gamble at night. I suggested they have their meetings at night, so I could have gone shooting in the desert.

.............Waksupi, No, no Elvis chapel! :-). It was nice although it was in-offensive 'Uni-Denominational' kinda thing. Might have served as well as a mortuary setting.

............Shuz, Is he a shooter? No he's not. He's never been exposed to it in a 'sporting' type fashion so far as I know. In fact my daughter Christian has more mechanical apptitude an dshooting interest in her pinky then he does in his whole body :D. He appears to be very interested in the machines in the garage, and if he were to be taken shooting for fun he'd probably enjoy it. I don't think it would ever become a major point of interest for him. At least that's the impression I get. Could be wrong.

My boys and LOML took me out to dinner for Father's day, and in the car the boys were discussing thier wedding ideas. My oldest (24 yrs, no girlfriend in sight) said that he wanted his groomsmen armed, cause that's the original purpose, according to him. To protect the newly married from the Englishmen or opposing clansmen. They are both into swords, and were discussing what sword to wear with a tux! The youngest thought it was a good idea (21, long term girlfriend, wedding plans 1+ yrs away). I was 'complaining' that I wouldn't be able to wear my SIG, and LOML said no, I'd have to wear the LeMat!

That's not just Father's day, it's common. I really like my family!

Oh, and the girlfriend is my best friend's daughter, he whom I taught to reload!

SWMBO’s nephew got married right after he graduated from the Air Force Academy and the groomsmen, all classmates, were wearing swords. Conjured up an interesting mental images of them climbing into airplanes to go into battle, wearing swords.

Having been exposed to CarpetMan for some length of time here, it would seem that ANY image they created would be a definite improvement. Can you imagine a grey-haired old man in sneakers going into battle with an animal control pole, riding a wooden sawhorse?

I am acquainted with a few members of Bobby's family--his grandfather, especially. Floyd worked with my Dad at the Coroner's Office in San Bernardino, and is absolutely full of hunting, fishing, and cop stories. One he told us about 20 years ago--that he was directly involved in--is absolutely the funniest cop story I have heard to this day. Just great people, all around.
