Apparently I was a party to a class action suit against ebay and by golly we won it. I got my check today and just can't decide what to do with it. I am including a picture of it so everyone can gaze upon my bounty. This is what makes America great, in my opinion.

Cost them way more to send it to you than it's worth. Great sense of values there, somewhere!

I'd frame that son of a gun.

By the time you drive to the bank to cash it, you will be in the hole.

You know, the postage to send that to you was many times more than your award!

Don't worry...with E-bay / Paypal fees as high as they are, they will get their money back out of you!!!

I won a class action suite against Caterpillar Tractor Co. a few years ago. Got back a few cents on the dollar from the thousnads they stole from my 401 K plans. CAT managment was found guilty in civil court of insider trading among many many other criminal offenses. SEC or no other FED agency ever brought criminal charges. When you are heading one of the largest American Corps you are above the law.

Years ago I was part of a Class action Lawsuit, and received $16.00
At that time, I had the usual full-time job and normally
I was able to file my taxes with the E-Z form.
EXCEPT that year that I won that suit,
I had to file the long form,
costing me more than $100 for Tax prep help. Yes I got a 1099 !!!

This is the last time we spend .49 cents to tell you you have .38 cents.

I don't suppose you would have a link to say a news article about that decision. I have a friend who works for CAT now. He lives in Decatur. I am afraid that CAT is about the only thing going right now, and my friend might just be gullible enough to believe everything the higher highers at CAT tell him.

Yep, cash it. The check is void in a couple weeks and then it goes back to someone.. it adds up for them. My check is .38 cents.

Trouble is I don't think I was harmed. I have a choice, I don't have to use Ebay. I feel more "harm and injury" from pirate lawyers cruising the seas of American business. :coffeecom

I got one of those the other day from another settlement. Somewhere in the paperwork it was spelled out that each individual named was going to receive $33 and some change...before fees (lawyers). My check was 17 cents. By the time I pay 50 cents to cash it online, which is cheaper than driving 35 miles to our closest bank branch, I'd lose 33 cents as part of my settlement. Gotta love it.

some of you all need to realize that if you cash a frivolous check you have settled your claim and have no further recourse. It’s an offer of settlement they send in the mail as a un greased dick.

By getting in on the class action suit, you have already given up your right to separate compensation. Usually in cases like this, individual loss isn't worth hiring a lawyer.

Legal scams. The lawyers make a bundle, distribute a few cents to a large group of
"injured parties".

Further proof that many/most lawyers are worthless parasites.

Bill

Not so. They perform a valuable service.

Let’s say a business does something which it knows affects a lot of customers. Let’s say a pay per view cable broadcast is cut off a few minutes into the program, due to some technical difficulty. The business tells a class action lawyer about the awful thing it did.

To right this wrong the class action lawyer files a lawsuit on behalf of the aggrieved class. All the class members are notified of their opportunity to opt out of the suit. Those who don’t opt out will be bound by the results of the litigation.

After a seemly time and amount if civil procedure the litigation is settled. As a settlement, the defendant agrees to issue each member of the plaintiff class, for example, a ten dollar discount on each of the next five pay per views he orders. The defendant also pays attorney fees to the attorneys representing the plaintiff class. The defendant now knows he has settled most if not all the potential litigation, and can proceed with business, without concern over contingent liabilities.

I got my check last week from $750 or so worth of fraudulent bank fees that was settled in a class-action. It seemed that there were enough of us that the settlement offer ended up paying out $95. Then again, I forgot about this class action suit as it was filed a while back which made this found money. Not such a bad deal in the end.
