In another thread 45nut posted a link to

http://themartialist.com/0207/zumbo.htm

In reading that I went to Tom Gresham's site Guntalk.com. In reading 2/21/07 : Tipping Point -- Suicide on the Web
I saw that Gresham had Zumbo on the air.

Now wait a little bit and Quicktime fires up. Half way through Zumbo calls in and starts saying the same old BS.

Also I am not to happy with Gresham's statement about "we eat our own", however he quickly figures out that was a no no and corrected himself. Gresham does make a good point:

"The next thing we learn from this is that the world has just changed. This entire episode took place inside of 36 hours, on a weekend -- a three-day weekend for President's Day. It happened...and this is important...entirely on the internet. The original posting was on the net, the reaction was on the net, the emails demanding that companies break off with Zumbo were on the net, and the reactions from the companies were all on their web sites. This was completely an internet event. It was a nuclear explosion, with tens of thousands of messages posted, spanning all the firearms-related web sites."--Gresham

History was made this week. Great for us "shooters" Not so great for the person with the hole in his foot.

I listened to it. It sounded like an apology, sincere in some respects. I'm sure he really is sorry it happened. That doesn't necessarily purvey his sentiment. He invoked the 'I've been doing this for 50 years' and 'I've stood up for your rights' explanations. How in 50 years could he NOT have been expoxed to ARs? That is tell tale of what I see as an elitist. The guy writes outdoor stuff for ordinary, everyday sportsmen, but hangs around with guys that don't use anything but richly walnut stocked firearms on guided hunts, and he wants our money. Go fugure.

I don't have anything against anyone having the wherewithall to live a cut above the rest of us, but don't flaunt it.

I'm having a little trouble with this thing about him sponsoring vets on hunts and then calling the AR a terrorist weapon. Huh? He said he was tired from being on a hunt all day. Well, being a writer for as long as he has, he 'shoulda knowed better'.

And Tom Gresham's comments about us 'eating our own' is out of line. Zumbo stepped over the line, and shooters all over the country called him on it. Big time.

Oh, and by the way, Zumbo, drop the word 'weapon' from your vocabulary. It's very unbecoming.

So, I guess on my part, apology accepted. He's not the only writer (or publisher or sponsor) that has learned a lesson from all this. I'm sure.

I'd like to see the results of the AR deer hunt with Ted Nugent.

Absolutely right, Sundog. The "Pulp Fiction" firearms resources also better start understanding that the communications timeline has shortened drastically, as will be evidenced by Mr. Zumbo's final article being printed in the April '07 editions.

"Disconnect" is right, and Mr. Zumbo is not alone in that regard. The world is both faster and a LOT less forgiving and indulgent than in past times. Dunno if that is better or worse, but we had better adapt to present conditions and the Darwinism manifest within same.

Maybe some good will come from this episode. Maybe people like politicians will learn not to spout off with special interest groups and the like. Statements that one makes are no longer just little local secrets. Sometimes double talk just gets a person deeper into the hole they have dug for themselves.

Anybody who doesn't recognize the speed and reach of modern communications is a fool. I can remember when people could calculate the "float" of their bank and get away with giving themseves a payday loan. Don't try it now!

Bill, it works in reverse now. Now the banks can hold your input check for "collection" for up to four days, and even months should they think you are playing money games. Thanks to our new banking rules after "Check 21" and 9-11. ... felix
