Made my 1st 40 cal boolits today out of a Lee mold-TL401-175-swc. Used a good hard mix. They all weighed in at 169 grs +/- 1 gr. I let them cool down for a couple hours and loaded a dummy round and they wouldn't fit the chmber in a 40 XD. They had another 1/16th or so to fit the chamber and measured at .406 to .408. Did i do somtin' wrong or do i need to size these down to .401. Cool longer? wrong alloy?

Sure that mould is not a TL410-175-SWC? I have one and it is not for the .40s but for the .41s. Mine cast right at .410".

I have the same mold except it's the non- Tumble lube. I size them with a .401, and they feed beautifully im both my CZ 40B and my STI.

Hey RR

Glad to see you dropping a few ;)

I use the same mold, and my G23, P16-40 and 10mm eats them like popcorn.

If you're dropping .406-.408, try adding a little more lead (or less other stuff), or cool the pot a tad.

My mold usually drops these at about 178-179 and fill out great with a bit of tin. Since I picked up a thermomenter, things got much better. I usually cast them just under 700* unless I'm getting fill out problems due to the shop being so cold and me not keeping the pace consistent.

I sizem down to .401 and load to 1.125-1.130 OAL.

No problems so far.

More accurate than I can take advantage of and no leading at all as long as I keep them under ~1300 fps.

I shoot the majority of these with WSF, but have sent quite a few down the tube with a dose of LongShot.

.406"-.408" is outta spec, methinks. Most 40's and 10's would likely start choking on boolits over .404". You can try sizing to .401", or maybe find a CAS shooter with a WIDE 38-40 WCF rifle or revolver that can put that fat 40 boolit to good use--and swap for a skinnier boolit mold.

I've shot many 1000's of that 401-175 tumble lube out of my .40 Hipower, mine drops at 401-402, just right out of the mold and no sizing needed. That seems like a heck of a variation, call Lee and see what they have to say.

I took some advice, cleaned the mold and relubed it, added more lead, lowered the temp. I still cast boolits at about .408 and i also notice looking down at them they are out of round the semi round nose is off to one side. I think this mold was made the day after a long weekend. Too much tailgating(Packer game) for the Lee boys. I'm sending it off back to Lee. They said it may be out of specs and they will replace it. Their rep. said the tolarences are +3 and -0 ..

Good move, RR. Lee has been pretty good to most customers as reported and related here. I can only imagine how much fun it would be to try sizing down .408" boolits to .401".
