Ya ought to get yourself a fur bearers license and make some money off his tail! Good shootin, though. That should be a real quiet pest getter.

My huntin' buddy sells the pelts and I take home the meat.

His job is to tree 'em with the dogs. My job is to drill little holes in their heads.

Too bad it outweighs that cricket, huh. Still, very nice woods companion.

How much dacron filler are you using?

A 1" square cut from a 3/4" thick sheet. That sounds like a lot, I know. My intent is to create a 'plug' to keep the powder from moving.

However(comma) I have just completed a test to make homemade card wads that will do the job nicely without having to stuff the case full of dacron. It will take me a few hours to compile the post and publish it, but I'll get ip up ASAP.

That load should be a good one for coons. I used to coon hunt a lot but, never carried anything but a .22. Let us know how it does.

I would imagine a 158 grain SWC would knock a 'coon for a loop.

I have heard that a card wad seated deep on the powder, away from the boolit can be
a cause of ringed chambers.

I'd ordinarily not pass on something like this that I don't really know squat about, but if
it is going to risk damage your fine Marlin, I'd be careful and ask around on the deep seated
card wad.

Those ought to be pretty quite loads, and they sure are accurate enough!

i'd stick with what you got now over a card.
the dacron will do what you are using it for, and a card slamming into the base of a non moving boolit will cause you problems.
remember a filler MUST touch both the powder and the boolit and a little compression is even better.
or i'd move to a faster powder, 2 grs of bullseye is a fine load.

I'd be curious about this too. Having grown up in S.C., I knew people who ate coon and possum, they generally tended to be older folks who grew up real poor and even if times were better then, they still didn't pass up a cheap/free meal.

We shoot a possum now and then for various reason, though usually I just leave them be, but I get curious now and again what one would be like to eat and will probably try it someday just to say I had and to know what ot's all about if I ever find myself needing to.

I bowfish a lot here, and it's always funny to hear how many people will tell you carp and gar are indedible, I beg to differ. Both can be pretty good prepared certain ways so for all I know, coons and possum may be delicious if a guy knows what he's doing.
