View Full Version : 32 cal SWC bullets, don't fit chamber.

A friend gave me a bunch of 32 cal brass and bullets that he got from an estate. The brass was primed Starline and was much appreciated.

The bullets are a different issue. The shoulder (probably not the right terminology) is too tall to fit my Single Six or Buckeye in 32 H&R. The loaded round sticks out about .030 from the back of the cylinders.

I've shown the difference in the photo below, the problem bullet is on the left and one that works from Meister on the right. This is confusing for a commercial bullet. Label is shown below.

Any insight of suggestions...?

is it the shoulder of the case, or is it the front driving band of the boolit?
if it's the driving band, i'd suggest dropping the load some and crimping over the driving band.
then working back up.
it's a fairly common thing to do with cast to fit the cylinders.
i do it with 454424's and 429421's for my leverguns.

It's the driving band, (I'm just learning cast boolit lingo).

So, you would suggest treating the top of the driving band on it like a wadcutter, crimping at its edge?

gotcha, Thanks...I'll drop the load down to the starting level and go from there.

Liberty was a pretty good outfit, I shot lots of their bullets. I could order from them "as cast" so I could size and lube to my own specs. They also would take them to gunshows and I could pick them up there, saving on shipping. They've been out of business for some time. I think the owner operaters just retired is all.

runfiverun,
I stuffed those into some cases with 2.4 grains of AA5 and they worked just fine. As a matter of fact, they grouped better than my usual load. Thanks again...

I doubt you'll have any problem with bullet movement from recoil in a 32 but you could also trim your cases enough to crimp in the crimp groove. Just a thought. Regards, Woody

Woody, that's another possible remedy. I only have 450 of the bullets left and don't wish to mix the length of my brass for future loads, but I can see where that would work. Once I burn through these bullets I'll be sticking with Meister bullets with a smaller driving band.

They might have been made for .32 ACP and not .32 long.

You may well need to have your chamber throats reamed a bit. IIRC, LBT talks about this on their website. I'm at work and can't access their website, or I'd post a link.

Size it to fit your chamber mouths. Or stuff the loaded rounds into a sizer die (or something) just enough to size the front band a little.
