I have been gone for some time! Keeping up with orders and then hunting the coastal islands!
Looks like quite a bit of traffic on "Gates Extreme Meplat Bullets"! I have reread most and it seems we need to separate Short Range from Long Range bullet designs!
The extreme meplat bullets were designed for short range (100 yards and under) handgun hunting situations indeed!
As of yet, we have seen no acuracy fall off within that handgun range. The overall lengths of those bullets are stable with handgun twists!
If you really read "Sixguns" you will note that Elmer watched the game that was hit travel some distance before falling. That just does not work in the heavy cover we hunt in. In fact, the 429421 was the first bullet design we used in the late 1950's. We hit many deer and hogs good, only to have most run off. We had to go get thhe dogs and trail then up.
So......we still feel that the extreme meplat design is the way to go for most handgun hunting situations......Regards, James
