In addition to working on my PP project I'm also breaking in my latest rifle. I think Lead Pot is right and that the BACO 670gr money nose boolit may be too much for my 1-26twist. So I'm looking for what type of GG boolit, probably around 600gr or so, for target work. I wish my range was set up to be able to set up paper targets at ranges greater than 100 yards. I think this boolit may not be stabilizing at 100yds so it looks like its spraying lead around on the target. The load is 110gr of 1.5 KIK, fireformed Starline cases, slip fit, .030 HDPE wad or .030 Walters wad (doesn't seem to matter), WLR primers. I've also used 100gr, 105gr of 1F KIK which is why I'm leaning toward the boolit being the culprit. Boolit is .512. Appreciate any help guys.

You might go over to the Shiloh board and pm Dakota Dick. His 50 is a CSA, I'm not real sure what bullet he's shooting in it, but everytime I've spotted for him or been around when he's shooting the monster, it shoots very well.

Dick uses a 650 grain Creedmoor profile for the gong shoots. I dont know who made the mould. And he has a PJ 600 gr round nose, but I dont think he uses that one for smacking the iron.

It may have been a Brooks mould. That rifle of his sure likes it what ever it is...

I have two 50/90’s. A Pedersoli Sharps and a Lonestar rolling block. The Pedersoli is 1:26 and the Lonestar is 1:24. Both rifles are extremely accurate, at least out to the 200 yards that I have available. Certainly more accurate then me. I tried a Lyman 515 gr with poor results. The very best boolit that I have found is from an NEI mold, a 700 gr. round nose, an expanded version of the old .45/70 500 gr from Lyman. It shoots MOA in either rifle. I recently acquired a Hoch 650 gr. mold that is just about as good. I size to .512 and use SPG lube with a Walters wad .060 and Winchester magnum primer. Also with either boolit I find that 95 grs. of Swiss 1.5 gets me the best accuracy. I have used 100 grs, 95 seems to work better.

I just ordered a Creedmoor 625gr. I have a 535gr 45/70 and it is real accurate. So that will be something else to play with. Hopefully I won't have to buy anymore moulds after this.
