was sitting there seeing nothing when a little baby owl landed in a branch about 4 feet from my face. It was about 4 inches tall. I stayed there stairing at me for about a 1/2 hour. Ive seen quite a few owls in the woods but never a baby. No deer but it made the night for me.

Lloyd, I bet what you saw is a saw whet owl. They are about that size, and show little or no fear of man.

did some looking on the iternet and i do believe you are correct sir as thats just what it looked like.

I'm pretty familiar with them. They nest on my property, and surrounding areas. Their mating call is monotonous. The same note, same rhythm, allllllllll night long. Like you, I have had them land near me, and keep me company for quite some time.
