Well, it's at night, but it's bigger. He has 4 on the left side (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-7L.jpg) and 4 on the right side (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-7R.jpg). So, iffin my countin is correct, that makes him close to a 8 pointer (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-7.jpg).
I can only count to 22 and that is only iffin I remember to use my nose.

The best way to hunt deer round here is to drive into town at dusk. They hide in the trees and wait till you TRY and drive by, then they run out in front of you. Darn deer.

[smilie=l:Hobbles killing deer with a vehicle is real expensive. I've never hit one but had one Sunday cross the road in front of me and then it went behind a house and I thought it went over the hill behind the house. Wrong, it went around the house and back across the road in front of me again. This was a 1 1/2 yr. old buck. He's probably ruttin' hard his first time and freakin' out bad.

Yeah it was cold out this morning but I saw a coyote that seen me about as soon as I saw him. No shot when he's moving 30 mph. Later about 8:00 I saw 3 does and later a nice buck. Looked to be a 8 point. Didn't have a good shot though. Maybe later on.......... Was gonna stay out longer but, wind got up some pretty bad. Usually I'm still out there at this time.

Hobbles, Got drawn for a Doe only hunt this past weekend at the Taylorsville Lake Wildlife Mgt area but saw only bucks. Figures. Almost hit a nice buck coming home after checking out at the F&W Station. It was near the bridge over Brashear's Creek heading back to Shelby Co. Moron just walked out in front of me, and no amount of horn blowing or flashing headlamps and screeching tires made him even notice me. Beast had a fireplug caught in his throat and my tiny little Focus would have been no match for him. Someone was indeed watching over me that day. Very Much looking forward to heading up to Trimble Co. tomorrow morning for the opening day excitement (11-12-11) Happy Veteran's Day to all!

Nor did I. Too busy. I'm down in North Central Arkansas getting my house built. Season opens today. It's just a little past legal shooting time and I havn't heard a single shot yet.

Not surprising, besides the full moon, the wind is already blowing 10 to 15 mph and is only going to increase. Too many acorns on the ground and nothing is hitting the corn feeder my landlord has out boardering goverment land.

Good luck to those going out.

Well, I got ready (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12-1.jpg) and headed out, a neighbor (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12-3.jpg) stopped by on the way to his stand to say good luck. So I sat there for 3 1/2 hours and this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12-2.jpg) is what I looked at for all that time. After that I walked down the hollar a bit and seen a well traveled deer trail, and I could see a lighter trail headin up to my blind. DARN!! Y'all know what that means. So I went to lookin for a place to build a new blind. I'm standin on the deer trail and I see this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12a.jpg) spot. Looks good to me, what do y'all think? This is a close up of the spot (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12b.jpg) .
I like it, so I get to buildin. This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12c.jpg) is what it looks like from the deer trail and this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12d.jpg) is a close up of it. This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12e.jpg) is lookin out from behind it. (if you look close, you can see I left my knife stickin in the tree, I'll get it later) and you can see where I put my new feeder. I can live with it. If you look very close at this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/11-12f.jpg) one, you can see the feeder that I sat at this mornin, that's how darn close this one is to it, just not close enough. You can't see the other blind, is behind the tree.

Hobbles, the deer were moving most of the day. I saw three bucks (yearling 6 pt, yearling spike, and maybe a three yr old 9pt w droptine on left antler), nine does, and a button buck.
Wind nearly knocked me out of the tree stand on a few occasions when a gusts of about 20 mph blew through. I let all the deer pass today looking for the monster that is tearing up the 6-7" cedars near my shagbark hickory tree stand. I am about 22 ft up overlooking three fields. I specifically let the droptine go to let him grow another year if he is lucky. There were countless shots throughout the morning, getting quiet about 1100 hrs. Got down and went to the barn for lunch with my buddy and back up by 1230 hrs. Began seeing deer again about 1530 until dark. The 6 pt came back chasing the does for a while then vanished. I do not think the full moon affected their movement much, and saw only one Doe with stained hocks.
Back at again in the AM.
Cheers,
Got-R-Did.

Got-R-Did,
They are sayin it's gonna be windy here today. 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50. I'll go and sit in the blind till the trees start fallin, then I'm a comin home.

roverboy,
I'll get out there bout 7:30 am. Then it will still be 1/2 hour before I can see my sights. No sense me goin out any earlier.

Hobbles, did get back out to the stand, and nearly had to nail myself to the tree. I heard a shot from the direction of my Buddy's stand and got a text requesting assistance with tracking about 10 min later from him. He had taken the only shot available on the buck he saw and while not ideal, he made good with a hit just inside the point of the right shoulder that traversed then exited the left ribcage. He was excited to say the least, so much so that he completely overlooked the deer on the bench below the field/tree line and was simply looking too far down into the hollow. I simply could not find a drop of blood, and started back from the point of impact after about ten minutes of futile searching. The buck lay just 25 yds from where he was hit, but piled up next to a tangle of brush and deadfalls; I understand how he could have missed seeing the deer in the excitement. If I send you an image by email, could you post it? The Buck is an 11 pt with a 7" droptine, field dressed at just over 200 lbs. We guessed him to be about 4 1/2 years old, and the smaller 9 pt droptine I passed on Saturday is still running hell, west, and crooked in the fields I overlook.

Mornin Got-R-Did,
Glad you didn't get blowin away, it got WINDY yesterday!.
Sounds like your friend was lucky with that shot, you might have to explain to him that sometimes you just have to let the deer walk if you can't get a good shot. I loose sight of all the deer I shoot, I gotta wait for the smoke to clear.
I went out yesterday and didn't see anything, again. It's raining and I'm waiting for parts to come in the mail so I can get my ATV up and running again so I didn't go out today. I've been using the Wife little 300 and it's built for her, it's small.

Sorry Hobbles, but he's only a 3x3 with eye guards, but a nice buck none the less.:kidding:

I met a hunter here one time that was walking on the road. I asked how his luck was and he said that he had shot a '5pointer'. I said "WOW!" In my mind I was thinking of a 5x5 NOT including eye guards! A real trophy! When I drove him to his camp there it was, a forked horn with an eye guard about an inch long. He proudly counted all of the points and said "See! A five pointer!" I did not want to let him down, and told him how nice the deer was, but it was kind of a let down for me. [smilie=l:

I get a kick out of the eastern dudes hunting out west and they count all the points on a deer even the itty bitty little 'trash' points. They are happy, what the heck!

I wonder how we got to doing this so differently?

Afternoon Boys,
Well, yesterday mornin I got my trans out of my quad, yesterday afternoon the lil Wife and I went and got some firewood. This mornin I went huntin. We have a lot of rain a-comin tomorrow, so today will be the last day for me to hunt. I let one nice buck go, he was out of my smoke poll range. I could of hit him, just not sure I could of dropped him. Then I had a 6 pointer come in, he left, then came back. He wasn't interested in the feed I had out and stayed in the trees. But I got a shot between them and he went down (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/2011deer-1.jpg). You can see the feeder off to the right and off to the left between the trees in the ditch is a white spot, that's him. I got him home (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/2011deer-2.jpg) and hung (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/2011deer-4.jpg). Now I'm takin a break. Well Done Hobbles. All I am seeing are very young bucks near my stand. Let a 2 1/2 yr old 8 pt walk today, he has already lost a lot of weight chasing the does, so still holding out for a more mature Buck. You are right lots of rain heading our way just like last Mon-Tues, we got 3" in those two days; hope it isn't a repeat. Plan on sitting in my stand until it starts then head to a nearby barn loft to watch what happens next. The little crawdad-claw antlered buck is still running around like a lunatic. He is so young, I doubt he will know what to do if he actually gets a doe to submit.

Mornin Boys,

roverboy,
"Head shot",,
The Excuse...
Well, He was movin and going between the trees. I seen him comin behind the feeder. He was movin back and forth. I watched him for over 5 minuets. He would come my way then go the other. He was heading toward the hill when I shot him in the left shoulder, he spun around and went down. I only hit one lung. I hit him 6 inches to far forward. He went down but was still movin when I got to him. So the head shot was to end it's suffering.
Fact,,
Was a bad shot on my part. I put to much lead on the shot.
I needed it, I was gettin to judgmental.
I used 73 grains of RS behind a .527 round ball. I make em out of wheel weights.

Got-R-Did,
The rain just started and it looks like we got 3 days of it. Thunder boomers today.
I don't know why but I was thinkin today was the last day of our huntin season. We have another week before it's over. That might of changer things. I don't think I would of took that shoot.

Saw the nine again, much better look this time and he has 6 on one side and 3 on the other for sure. He will be nice next year if he makes it. Only heard three shots all day, and it was misting from 1400 hrs to about 1630 when the rain started in earnest. Got down out of the stand at 1730 and headed to the house. Fog rolled in just before then so visibility was curtailed anyway but did manage to see the little 6 duck into the woodline behind me as I was doing a last scan before getting down. Also watched two decent gobblers pick their way by at about 30 yds on their way to roost. Great day overall. Back out Wednesday afternoon, and last opportunity before late muzzleloader season.
