A few months back I purchased a used Ruger Security Six 4 " with a fair amount of holster wear and some chips in the original grips from a friend locally. But I was not looking for a show-piece but a working gun to use on Search and Rescue calls.

Took the original grips off and replaced them with Pacmyers I picked up used at the local gun-pusher for $13. Dropped a Wolf Spring Kit in it and stoned all the trigger surfaces. It has a NICE trigger now :2guns

Been working on a few loads for both 2 and 4 legged critters and have several well worked out. However, today I was testing loads for my 6" Half-Lug Ruger GP100 to hunt with. (It sports a Weigand Scope mount and Bushnell Trophy Red Dot scope (1x) with 4 reticles)

After doing some development, I have settled on this load:

Lyman 358439 - 168gr. Cup Point Hollow Point sized .358 cast of 50/50 wheel weights and pure lead air cooled.
16.3 gr. H-110
Winchester Small Pistol Magnum Primer

Out of the GP100 I am getting some impressive groups at 50 yards that are hovering at just shy of 1" ... like this one. .963" without the low left flyer.

I think if I play with the crimp a little bit, I can get that flyer to go away. Regardless, this is a fine load for deer out to about 75 yards to so. I also did some expansion testing of the alloy with the 6" GP100 and at 50 yards, this bullet passed thru 6" in wet phone books and then 4 gallon milk jugs of water. Nice expansion of the cup point and a resulting perfect mushroom. Penetration was good as well.

Now, back to the Ruger Security Six ....

After confirming the loads worked well in the GP100, I proceeded to give the load a try (from a rest) in the Security Six ... I was pleasantly surprized that it was taking the same load and stacking the rounds in a nice group (again at 50 yards). I finished off the rest of the box (35 rounds) and managed to keep them all inside of the 5" circle at 50.

Not bad for a beater of a gun ... :-D

Cast bullets and revolvers ... how can ya go wrong :2guns

Nice!

Some years ago I bought a 6" Security Six that had lead a tough life. It looks like it was one of those "under the seat" guns.......but has a good bore and action.

It will outshoot all my more expensive and "prettier" .357's.

Making me hungry for a revolver. I love my 10mm's, but chasing brass gets old. And, I can afford auto's that will shoot 1" 50 yard groups.

A revolver would be just the ticket.
