God bless The Old Guard

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

That has got to be one of the best details to pull.

The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) is the face of the Army. Old Guard Soldiers represent all Soldiers in ceremonies in the National Capitol Region and throughout the nation.
The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) is the official Escort to the President of the United States and our nation's Premier Memorial Affairs and Ceremonial Unit. Old Guard Soldiers are in Arlington National Cemetery daily rendering final honors to our fallen, both past and present.
The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) is the oldest active Infantry Regiment in the U.S. Army and has a distinguished history of service throughout our nation's conflicts; from its creation in 1794 through Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Old Guard Soldiers are tactically proficient in their soldiering skills. Besides our ceremonial duties we stand ready to defend the National Capitol Region in the event of an emergency.

I had the sincere pleasure of meeting several members of the Old Guard, their horses, and their farrier. Yes the Old guard is home of the Caisson horses and their riders.

Caisson Platoon

To me the presence of the Old Guard is there to preserve the honor and respect that all who serve deserve.

And in fine print I personally say thank you to all that have or are serving.

we took our high school band to DC 3 years ago. we got to see the changing of the guard. There is a retired member of the old guard that lives near me. He arranged for our band members to be able to enter the barricks and ask questions of the Sergent in charge. This left a lasting impression on some of our kids.

Young man that grew up with my grandson, lived on the corner from me, just got out of the Army, Kris was a corpsman in the unit that supported the Old Guard at Arlington. He is in medical school now.
Nice kid.

It would be interesting to learn the training and restrictions those soldiers have to go thru in order to qualify.

Yes many of us pulled guard duty in the rain wind and snow but can you imagine having to do what they do at 20 above in a blizzard. Those are some very dedicated folks.

3 hours late in saying THANK YOU for that site. Just could not stop watching about those troops. Makes me very proud to see those folks doing what most of us can not do.

They are so young or am I getting so OLD?
