Gentlemen,
On pg.166 of Mike Venturino's great book; "Shooting Buffalo Rifles of the Old West", there is a photo of Bob Glodt with his cool shooting stand. Anyone have any idea who manufactures that stand, or wether or not it is still available? Any other recomendations as to another suitable unit you might have experience with?
Thank you in advance,
Chris

Yep! Here's my 'shooting stand':

Entirely mobil and I don't have to carry or push squat.....other than the accelerator or brake pedal!! I also have this one...but I prefer the above!

Don't know if the one you saw is still being made or not...but I saw the one you're asking about!

That looks pretty slick, especially the tailgate situation! I will give that one a try for sure. Looks like you believe in a clean, swabbed bore! Nice looking rifle. Thanks for the reply,
Chris

I've got a 2" piece of galvanized pipe shoved through the center of my rolled up prone mat so it doesn't collapse! Works well and more comfortable than a bench! Course might
not work up in Wyoming where you'd need a 10 ton bench to keep schitt from blowing into Wisconsin!!!

Rick:

So what's it like riding on that bench with the grandsons pulling you with the quad..............shooting tail gunner style? :2gunsfiring_v1:

Pneumatic tires may make the ride a bit smoother................on a plowed field. If ya stick to the hayfields and summer fallow..............it's probably not as bad.

Glad you spoke up as I'll be contacting you soon about a mould! I pull that bench....when I use it with my truck! Most of the guys that come here to sight in their 'popguns' use it but I prefer the tailgate! The grandsons are starting to get lights in their eyes about the Sharps but I'm gonna start 'em out on the lighter 45/70! Hope all is well with you!

Take care!

Dawg gone it Rick! That's a left handed tailgate. Only about 10% of shooters can use it.

Nice looking range box. You make it?

Had that box about 5 years now; reworked it about twice but it's still holding up! Think I'll get in the fab shop one of these days with the bending tools and make another. Forgotten the make or where I got it but it's held up pretty fair!

Oh...BTW....CONGRATS on your latest commendation! Read about it in the Gannet Outhouse Special I think yesterday! You need to take some time to come shoot and smell the roses!!:-D:wink:

Rick,
What sort of cleaning rod is that you use at the range?

otterdriver,
If you can get a picture of that bench by scanning the book page, or taking a closeup with a digital camera, maybe some of us can help you look around for a match.

CM,
Lack of know-how at the present time, precludes me from undertaking such a task. As time permits me, I will try to get a little more savvy on such matters. I thank you for taking the time to reply to my query. I enjoy reading your inputs to the forum. I will keep my eyes open for a good stand. Mulhern's idea might work just fine for now. BTW, I was an Air Force brat in the mid sixties, based at Malmstrom AFB. We slayed the trout near Giant Springs on the Missouri. Fond memories... Chris
