Drove 550 miles round trip to get it and had to pay 60cents a lb for it so it worked out to 65cents a lb which is more then ive ever paid but i couldnt pass it up. I just cant find anymore around here for any price. Nice stuff though lots of mono mixed in with it.

Lloyd,

How are you going to blend it, especially the mono? Can you tell the difference between the ingots of lino and mono?

It wasnt in ingot form it was type. Ill just melt it in 100lb batches and live with it.

cbrick,
Monotype is typically found in single letters / numbers
Linotype, on the other hand is a solid piece consisting of letters / numbers, thus the definition "line of type".

Yep, I understand that, I just figured that much of it would have been in ingot form, would make it easier to store and/or move around.

The linotype produced a piece of lead about 4" X 1 1/2" X 3/16", containing words, numbers, and spaces, just as you would see in your newspaper. The pieces of lead were called "slugs," no doubt so named by a boolit caster. Dimensions based on the memory of a 12 year old who enjoyed hanging around his Grandfather's newspaper nearly sixty years ago.

Lloyd,

Congrats, nice haul.

Need some pure lead to stretch that out some?

I have good supply of pure lead and am always looking to trade for a little more lino. Lead is in ingots, very clean and certified pure lead - scrap from a shielding business that sends all lots to the lab for verification to meet specs. Pictures, references, & samples avaiable if requested.

Lloyd and some others here have seen this picture before. It is a sampling of the letter form type metal I use.

I was going through some ally that I picked up at an estate sale nearly 4 years ago, and noticed that the ingots are stamped "Lino" on the back. Probably about 200 pounds. I was assuming these were somewhere between straight PB and wheelweights. I'm pretty happy! :-) although i'll be hardness testing it this weekend just to be sure

no im not. But i am enguaged and have been for 5 years to one of the most understanding women in the world. When it comes to shooting guns hunting and casting she knows better then to complain. Shes even picked up lead for me in the past and paid for half of one of my linebaughs for a gift once.

Not really Cohutt. Ive got about 1000 lbs of pure right now and i really dont have much use for it. I mostly mix it with wws and range lead to make 45acp and 9mm bullets.
