Does anyone use Power Pistol for their cast boolit loads for 9mm-41mag-10mm-44mag-45acp? I have a jug and would like to use it if it performs well. Anyone have any input on these calibers and cast with Power Pistol?

Not a huge amount of data out there, unfortunately. One load that has been very good
for me is 9.0 PP under a 250 Keith in .44 Mag. This is essentially identical to the time honored
10.0 gr Unique load with the same boolit. Both will give about 1050 fps and in many guns,
outstanding accuracy. Powerful enough to hunt with, but not going to beat you or the gun
to pieces.

I dont use it much in semi autos as its a bit slow burning for those but do use it probably more then anything even including unique in mid range 44 or 45 colt loads. Ive tried universal clays but never did get the accuracy i was looking for at those levels. Not that it wouldnt work its just i probably never put enough time into trying it. Power pistol is clean burning and has given me accuracy like i get with unique and herco and it meters much better which is nice if you load progressively like i do. I might get slammed for saying this but ive yet to find an application for it that you couldnt use unique loading data for.

I bought a 4# "keg" and so far I really like it. Not the cleanest burning but certainly not the dirtiest either.

I've gone through 2# of the keg and my current 9mm load is 5.5 grains with both the 124 TC and 124 RN hard cast boolits. Accuracy is outstanding and gun functioning has been flawless. MV averages 1125-1150 and there is no leading.

My 10mm Auto load is 7.5 grains and a 180 grain hard cast boolit; 9mm performance comments apply.

Power Pistol is another good powder suitable for many applications. Stick with published data and the usual precautions and you'll be fine and I suspect get equally good results.

I use Power Pistol in 9mm with cast bullet weights from 124 to 147 grs. with excellent results, all those were with commercial cast bullets. I just receive my Lee 124 gr. RN mold yesterday so I'll be trying some loads out with it very soon.

I also use Power Pistol in 9 x 18 Mak. and 38 Spec. +P and mid-range 357 cast loads and it has done well in those loads as well. My Lyman #49 manual has a good bit of load data using power pistol/cast bullets in those calibers you listed. The Lyman Cast Bullet Manuals will have much more. I picked up a 4 lb. jug of the stuff for $35 and individual wanted to part with last year.

$35??? Ain't it nice when that happens? :D

I like PP in the 40 smith and .45 ACP as well, I've used it in 9mm too, it meters great and burns clean. Right now I'm using Herco though, I got a deal on 2lbs of it I couldn't refuse.

Really like PP in 9mm with Lee conventional 356-120 TC and Lyman 356402.Good performance and accuracy.

I bought a pound of it to try in my 10mm loads but AA-9 works so well and burns so clean I quit messing with PP.

Sure is,my friend ran a small reloading supply shop out back of his house more as a hobby than anything else and when he got tired of that and sold off his supplies I was fortunate enough to get a few thing at a great price.

I only recently began casting for my 9mm. I am having very promising performance so far with a 140 gr TC design and 4.6-4.8 gr HS-6. This load seems to like BAC lube better than Carnauba Red.

In jacketed, I shoot Montana Gold 115 gr JHP over 6.8 gr Power Pistol and that has been a very good load for me. I have shot about 2000 rounds of that load over the past year or so. I want to try Power Pistol with the next batch of the 140 TC I cast up.

A highly under-rated powder, Power Pistol is. I've had really good results from midrange .40 and .45ACP, and .357 magnum top-end loads. If you want a real show, work up a load for .357 magnum to near the top, then shoot it at night! This stuff flashes like you wouldn't believe, so I'd question the use of it for an SD powder, but I theorize that the apparent lack of flash-suppressant additives helps it burn more cleanly once in it's ideal pressure range.

Yes, that is all I use for my 9mm and my 45 ACP. It is safe, has little smoke, easily meters...what else can I say. I just received 8 lbs today!

I'm loading 9mm with 5.5gr PP under a Lee 3561252R.
Also 6.0gr in 45ACP with the Lyman 225gr RN.

I'd love to know what load people are using in 40S&W?
I cast a Lee 175FP lubed with Jakes Purple Ceresin for my 40S&W loadings.

Thanks.

I was using it now and then in the 357 but what a fireball-even at the indoor range you could see it for nearly a foot , it seemed!! I quit it in favor of other powders

I use it in my 44 mag loads with a jacketed hornady XTP , i just don't have a 44 mold yet or i would use cast in it

12.9gr makes a decent load under the 240gr xtp bullet

the reason i went with it is that it looked like a good powder for all the pistol cartridges i would load the 240 is near it's top end but with 9mm - 44mag from one powder and at the price of power pistol why not my pound was 17.25 right here in town.

i didn't notice a flash from the 44 mag, what i was getting a huge flash from was some blazer aluminum cased 9mm and 40cal stuff i was shooting , left over from the days before i started reloading and wanting to pay a bit extra for brass.

It has noticeably more flash and blast than the powders on either side of it in burning speed (Unique and Herco) that are offered by Alliant.

An onlooker will often comment, "Hey, those loads must be a lot more powerful" to which I'll often reply that the loads I am shooting are getting only standard velocities......it's just that they're using Power Pistol.

Rather blasty, it is. Since this annoys me somewhat, I am probably less enamored with it than some other choices. Meters well and isn't untidy, so it has that going for it.
