Ever heard of featherless chickens????
Seems in England there are really featherless chickens.
Even stranger is they have old retired ladied that sew little sweaters for these chickens.
Sweathers keep them warm at night and keep them from getting sunburned during the day.
I think they were bred without feathers so they could be processed easier.

I loved this part of the story . . .

The chicken is “disgusting”, says Joyce D’Silva of Compassion in World Farming. “It’s a prime example of sick science and the suggestion that it would be an improvement for developing countries is obscene.”

“Factory farming is such an inappropriate technology for developing countries because it uses scarce resources like water, electricity and grain that could be used for human consumption

Growing food in devoloping countries is a really bad thing I guess. Better to let them starve than have meat.

I wonder, do ya suppose Joyce D’Silva of Compassion in World Farming might have ever missed a meal because there was nothing to eat? :veryconfu

That is one really ugly chicken, I think I would rather pluck them than look at the naked chicken.
Rick, there are a bunch of misguided people that want to save farm animals from being killed for food. What they don't understand is that the animals can't take care of themselves and would be extinct in short order if they had no value other than eating and breathing. As the motor city mad man says, " if you want to save a species from extinction, find a good recipe for them".

I worked in Puerto Rico for a while, and cock fighting is their national pastime there. Those chickens are featherless but I'd always assumed they plucked them.

Elmer Keith wrote and interesting story about featherless chickens in one of his books. Worth reading if you can find it./beagle
