Here in Tulsa, they are finishing up three Dick's Sporting Goods stores, the first ones in the State. They will open sometime in the next three weeks according to the advertising. Does Dick's handle guns, ammo, etc? Rumor has it they don't.

Thanks.

I looked on their website yesterday, since they are opening one here. I didn't see any firearms or reloading supplies. I was hoping they carried powder, since I have to drive 35 miles to get it now.

Zero reloading or pistol supplies. Smaller caliber rifle and shotguns are all they sell. After all, we should only be using guns for hunting, right? :/

The one here in Jax, FL is the same as ErikO's. I do have a Gander Mountain here, but find that I can order from Graf and Sons and pay less over all if I can wait and even better if they have a sail like they do right now. But I am also blessed with darn near monthly shows and Reload-1 is just across town from me. Then I have a few over priced LGS's that pander their wares to me but unless I'm right in the middle of something I won't pay their inflated prices.

There are 2 in Lexington Ky. No reloading supplies period. Do have guns and ammo as well as archery and hunting. Selection can be small and prices always high except for what is on sale. The two stores here are in the 2 largest shopping areas in town. They cater to the mall type of people who don't shop for better prices like we do.

We have several in Virginia and they do sell guns and ammo not a big selection of ammo and gun prices are kind of high some times you can catch them on sale and join Dicks club and get $$ points to go toward purchases

Haven't been there in awhile, but back before Sportsmans Warehouse folded their stuff was easily a 10-15% mark up over just about anyone in town. I only used Dicks for my running shoes. It's been years since even that because of Eastbay.

They do have good sales on occasion, and with the rewards program you can rack up points quickly which turn into gift cards. I really like their shoe department (no comments:bigsmyl2:) because the people who worked at the ones I have been to have been very knowledgeable about the products.

They have all there tree stands on clearance right now in my area. Got at hangon for 50 bucks normally over 100 dollars. Nice padded seat and shooting rail.

Seems their idea of sporting goods (at least the one here) is for golf, tennis, and the like. Big yawner for me. They do advertise shotguns before dove season, though.

A few shotguns, .22s. Pistol ammo and shotgun shells are often inexpensive. Some misc
hunting related gear like slings and cleaning rods. Not much worth worrying about. Running
shoes, basketball "skirts" (they call them shorts, but . . . ) and such seem to be the majority
of what they have. I rarely go in.

Smart man. I belive Dick's made a name for itself sucessfully marketing the Under Armor brand first or vice-versa. I had never heard of the place prior to relocating to Lexington KY in 1998. IMO they are a niche' retailer and cater to the fad crowd. My .02

In Indianapolis we have several. They sell long guns, no hand guns. They do have pretty good close out prices once in awhile. I recently picked up a H&R Handi in .308, with scope and camo stock for $199.

Thanks for the replies. They seem to be running an ad campaign something along the lines of "I'm waiting". We have a Bass Pro Shop in town and I have been very disappointed in their prices, so I was curious if Dick's was something along the line of Bass Pro or something else entirely.

They have guns here including the larger calibers or at least they used to. I don't know on their prices as I don't go there much. Way on the other side of town for me and I have closer stores that have more of what I need. I went to it about 6/7 years ago and they had pistols marked way down. This was my first time there and I asked about them. They said Dicks was getting out of the pistol business so they marked them all way down to get rid of them. If I had more money I would have bought a couple or so but I did p/u a nice Umberti S/A in 45 colt for $300. They have sales often but they are always like 10% off so it gives me nothing to compare since they don't state what 10% is off from.

Shotguns and rifles at the stores here in Illinois. They used to have pistols, but removed them shortly after they changed over to the new name.
They also have a fair collection of airguns and accessories. Also have bows. Ammo selection is modest and only the most popular factory loads. Gun cleaning and maintenance items is about typical for a sporting goods chain store.
Prices are typical of chain stores.

the Dick's here is very over priced and only has a few shotgun and rifles, not much selection.

Lots of way over priced ammo.

They also carry archery supplies.

They do get a bunch of hunting 'stuff' in and then when the season is over it all goes on sale.

I was in a Dick's in NJ the other day. They had a gun section, but the selection was poor. They did not have the cleaning brush that I was looking for.

As mentioned above, a Rambo, Yuppie, Taktikool sporting store. SOMETIMES, on sale, they have prices that are competitive. I've bought a few cases of shotgun shells from them when on sale. Otherwise, about the same kkrraapp as Sportsmans Guide and the Greedy One.

What everybody else said plus if you buy a rifle broken down in a case inside a box they still have to take it to the checkout then wait while you pay for it and escort you to the door before they hand it to you. Rossi matched pair single shot.

In the Portland, Or area, about 2 years ago Dick's moved into the former GI Joes stores. I had never heard of them before.

At that time I was looking for a basic 410 shotgun for my son, there "sale" was 10% higher than Bi-Mart's every day price:???:

They have no reloading supplies, and only limited ammo.

They have some rifles and shotguns, maybe 50 at the store I went to. All run of the mill, plain vanilla types

I guess it's good that they do have guns, as many places don't anymore, but I haven't found anything to get excited about yet.

The store in Jacksonville, FL has shotguns, 22's and a few other rifles. They do have some really good sales occasionally and they do walk you all the way to the door before they give you your firearm. The guys in the gun dept are pretty good people. They will order guns for you and those have some pretty good prices on their special orders. My problem is their location at the "Town center" and the mall type atmosphere.

I was in the Colorado Springs store earlier this week. They had quite a few shotguns, rifles and small caliber rifles. No handguns or reloading supplies. All things considered, I think they are way overpriced. Either that or I'm a cheapskate and don't really want to pay what they want for Under Armor etc hunting gear. I'll stick to Academy and the occasional journey to Bass Pro. At least at Bass Pro I can find Tall shirts, pants, jackets etc in my camo pattern of choice.

Yours may be better in CO... But ours here sucks. No selection, lousy prices. Gander mountain (bass pro lite) used to have good selection, but high prices... Now they've dumped their reloading section. Not much on the way of good stores around here...

Wish we had a Cabelas or bp.

After reading through this again it's starting to look like we all can blame the internet for the changing market model of a "Guy" store. I remember when a trip to L.L. Bean was a HUGE thrill for my brother and I. The whole atmosphere of this big open place with indoor casting pond and whatnot. Never been to Bass Pro or Gander Mt. because of being overseas at the time many of these sprouted up. By the time I returned to CONUS the internet was alive and well, why travel to one of these super stores when I could pretty much get it online. While I still use the net from time to time to buy certain items I know for sure can't be had here locally, I make the rounds of the local gun stores and spend there if I can. No need to give my hard earned $$$ to some over priced conglomerate when a smiling face and trully gratefull owner deserves it more.

You guys are lucky.
When I went to the one near me some girl told me "We don't sell anything that hurts animals." When I asked if they some firearms or ammunition.
I guess it was her personal afront to men.

I went back ONE other time. Just browsed for myself, interested in scopes. I believe they had two or three, for airsoft or paintball guns. [smilie=w:
I've decided they are strictly a liberals store and won't see any business from me. The Daughter buys stuff there for her coaching activities though.

So I went acrossed the huge parking lot to the Super Walmart to browse. (Gotta love the Walmartians you occasionally see there.) Hellofa selection. (For this town)

Dick's.
Yeah, the name fits. ;) :lovebooli

We don't have a Dick's around here but it sounds like they are trying to make Walmart look good. Our Walmart's have reloading supplies in addition to long guns and shotguns now.

In my experience...Dicks, Sportsmans Warehouse, Cabellas, Scheels, Gander Mtn...have absolutely eVERYTHING a shooter could ever WANT...except for a good deal.

Several yrs back when Scheels had sales on trap or skeet ammo they would allow a guy to order a dozen cases...now like many of them..."Subject to Stock on hand". BS.

Dicks in NJ was the same deal. They had a heck of a decent sale on Winchester AA's several yrs back ....went to the store and they had SIX boxes. Not worth the gas money to drive over.

Dick's is a waste of time.Limited, but if you need a basketball shirt. The one here does seem to have a good fishing supply.Staff has very little knowledge on gun's,ammo etc.I say the help should have to wear a T-shirt saying how much they like thier employer.
