I stopped at their Merriville IN store today. On a shelf in their reloading area I found a can of Tight group was marked $14.00 so I took it to the cashier and new I was having a good day. $7.00 was what the receipt said. Well this really got my attention and I just had to go back and check the other powders on the shelf.

A salesperson wanted to answer my questions. How come that powder was so cheap said I. Simple said he ALL OF OUR RELOADING STUFF IS 50 % OFF. Bullets, brass, dies, shell holders etc.

Yup now I am broke and the wallet has been run over with a steam roller. [smilie=w:

If you have one of their stores near you give them a call or drop by.

In La Crosse WI, they just relocated into a larger store, a high tech indoor range, etc...what they didn't bring was the reloading stuff with them. So, maybe it is a move by all the stores to sell out, and not stock reloading equipment/supplies.

Thanks for the heads up!
Need some more powder and can always use bullets. Will head over to the Joliet store later in the week. Any idea on how long this sale lasts? I looked on the Gander Mountain website and did not see it advertised. Hopefully it is not only at selected stores.

It sucks that Joliet, IL is the closest one to St Louis...no luck for me, I'd save money buying at Cabela's due to the cost of gas. And how much can I get there since I don't have a FOID card? No primers, no powder. Stupid IL laws...

Bill, I would have found a way to buy the whole kit & kaboodle just to resell at a gun show or two. :)

I just called the GM closest to me, and was told their reloading supplies, both components and tools, are 25% off, which would put their prices pretty close to realistic retail so I won't be making the drive to buy anything. I was told by the clerk on the phone that GM is getting out of the reloading business. Maybe the 50 discount comes later to clean out the last of the stuff.

Try the Springfield store as it should be a little closer to you.

As far as the FOID card goes you say you live in Mo. FOID cards are required for Illinois residents so you should be good to go.

Also some of these might be closer.

I picked up a 20 ga. RCBS Grand for $250 in Ocala a few weeks ago. It had been marked down to $500, then put in the 50% off reloading bin. Got the 12 ga. conversion for $125. I still need to send in the $50 rebate.

I called them this morning, yes there's a sale, "red tags" are on the shelves
but no "hardware". I guess he meant products. It's not 50% as far as he knows.
Manager hasn't put the stuff on the shelves(?). He said they're not discontinuing reloading stuff.
I'm not sure the manager tells them much. Will go there tomorrow (Thurs.),
the guy said nothing would change today.

Yeah, no. ;) At least it *should* be ok, but not for non-hunting ammo and I don't have a current MO hunting license. I checked in with the IL SPD and they did confirm this.

At least MO no longer has an issue if I buy a long gun from a border state in person anymore.

Really, I can't complain. Graf & Sons and MidwayUSA are easily within a day trip of me so I'd rather go that route. Of course, if I'm going to be heading to visit friends in Chicagoland, the Springfield store is right on the way...may just have to stop in and see what they got reloading wise. I'll be sure to check in and see what I can legally buy so I don't end up keeping myself from gun owndership due to a bum purchase.

Bill, thanks again for the head's up. Bowling Green, KY is not far from here, I may convince the missus that we need to go see some of the Bluegrass state. :)

Gander Mountain frequently has these unadvertised sales. Generally, if it is on sale at one store, it is on sale at all stores. I got two Trijicon Reflex sights at approximately $200 each. Best buy I have ever gotten. And I have found the powder and reloading supplies at 50% off on several occasions.

Needless to say I frequently have the sales clerks check prices for me. I think they go into hiding when I show up now.

Hope I`m not reading into this too much. When there is half off on items, that usually means they won`t be carrying them again.Robert

I stopped by the Gander Mountain in York, Pa about a month ago and picked up a Lyman Crusher for $50. Returned about two weeks later and grabbed a set of RCBS .35 Rem dies for $15.00 and a couple boxes of 6mm bullets for half price. I left a set of 7-08 dies for the same price 'cause I already have four sets, but have been second guessuing that decision since.

That's exactly what I heard.
no more reloading items.
a friend called from Rochestor, MN.
half off reloading items.
by the time he seen this sale,
all the good stuff was gone.
He was told by the GM manager they are not going to carry
those items anymore.

The GM near me never carried reloading supplies :(

makes sense i got most of my muzzle loading stuff on a sale like that , dicks was getting rid of all loose powder and non sabot projectiles , i bought what has so far been a 5 year supply of 777 and i have over half of it left , just a shame they only had 4 boxes of great plains conicals at the time.

i got some more stuff when walmart clearanced their MZ stuff

After reading this thread, I went by Gander Mountain in Jackson, TN this morning. They either sold out of all the powder or never had any to start with. They had a few primers, all 100 packs at very inflated prices. I saw no sign of any markdowns.

I guess it will be several more years before I go to Gander Mountain again.

IMHO, save the gas, GM is another chain that is all too worried about where it's $$$ IS COMING FROM UP TOP. Not the consumer.....You and I.

So.... The one in Portage/ South of Kalamazoo is having a sale. But there is no advertising and you have to take the cans of powder to the cash register to find out what they really costs. I got the last pound of IMR 4895 for $15.89 out the door and the last 8 pound IMR 3031 for $79.48. No primers in the place except for the ones they sell by the hundred to the smoke pole crowd. There was a lot of Accurate powders in 1 pound cans and some Winchester shotgun powders in 5 pound cans.HS-6 and other Hogdon powders were on hand also. I wish they had a 8 pounder of the 4895 or 4064 but they didn't. The guy said that they just found out that they will no longer have any reloading supplies, He seemed bewildered by it all.

They also had 3 chilean 7 mm model 95 mausers for $200 each, one was pretty nice with potentially pretty wood, although mismatched. All had problems with their rear sights flopping around.

I hit the GM store in Janesville, WI yesterday morning and all reloading was red-tagged at 1/2 of last marked price. Very little left on shelves but did snag (3) 1# cans of AA5744 for $14.98 ea. and 2500 CCI Large Pistol Primers for $1.99/100. Probably should've bought their last (2) 50-round bags of new W-W 7mm Mag brass for trading material/resale but didn't bother.

Gander Mt. in KNOXVILLE, TN has red tags on brass and bullets, but even these discounted prices were too high to stir up any interest. They have no presses, die sets are at regular prices, didn't ask about powder. It appears they arre trying to maximize their exit sale profits while closing out all reloading, and they readily state they are getting out of all reloading. Perhaps in a few weeks they will see that they will have to make larger cuts in order to clean off the shelves.

Today I went to the one in Portage / Kalamazoo and took a closer look. There is reloader 22,19 ,15 , and 7 and a ton of red dot. Accurate 5, 5744, 2230, hogdon H110, hs6 . clays and international. IMR or H 3831 and 4350 and some others. But there was far and away the most red dot i have ever seen in one place. About $10 per lb in 4 and 8 lb jugs. There were about 6 boxes of J bullets also. I got some accurate #5 for $10 per lb in one lb cans. I have got to get out to the one in Kentwood/ Grand Rapids to check on it.

HS6 looks useful from what data I have . It will probably be around $15 a lb. Red Dot $10 per lb in the big jugs.

Checked at the Gander in Green Bay this morning. Lots of red tags but I didn't see anything you would call a good deal. $3 per 100 for primers. Die set for $30. Carbide dies for $60. Odd ball brass for more than Midway USA gets any day.

That's interesting. When I cleaned off the shelf in Janesville last Saturday morning, the only primers left were CCI LP and LPM in red-tagged 100-packs originally marked at "$3.99." When I checked out, they rang up at $1.99/100. I got (26) 100-paks at that price.

I checked out the GM in York, Pa after reading this thread...

They had a Red Tag sale on some reloading items, but the shelves were pretty much bare and powder was not included. Some of their reloading presses were on sale at 50% off, but I really don't need another RockChucker and I have little interest in a progressive...the Lee 1000 I bought years ago didn't impress me...It is sitting in a box in the reloading room where it can do no further harm.
