My lee mold should be here to day(for the 8x56R bullet) and it suppose to be for gas checks. can someone tell how their bullet for gas checks work without the gas check?? and does anyone load the .330 bullet in the hungarian Steyr with and/or without the gas check?? Will the gas check for the 8x57MM bullet or do i need a different gas check. I plan to load pour .308 bullet for the 7.5x55 Swedish K31 and does anyone remember what's hte right mold for that rifle. (the front half of the bullet rides on the lands, the rear part is the "gas" check.

You might check with Lee for their recommendation. I would tend to think that You'd need the larger .338 gas checks, if that size is to be had. The standard 8mm gas checks are most likely too small. I have never had good luck with "checkless" gas check boolits, though there are many who claim to do so with great success.

You need the 338 gas checks for the Lee .338 boolet and for the Oldfeller Frankenstein boolet. If you don't have any check with Blammer.

Actually standard 8mm/.32 gas checks work fine for the 8x56R. I lapped and "Beagled" my mold out to .332+ and size them to .332- with regular 8mm gas checks. They fit the shank fine, look a little funny when sized, but shoot OK with no leading.

I tried them without gas checks also, sized properly for the bore and loaded light. I don't remember the load, but they were going around 1200fps IIRC. They shot OK and didn't lead.

You don't mean the 7.5x55 Swiss do you? If so I get good results with the LEE 170gr flat nose gas check boolit without the check. I'm too cheap to mess with checks. I get good accuracy with 23gr of 2400 at 1950fps with no leading at all.

The Lee 329 is designed to use 8mm GC's. You might better return it before casting with it and get the larger 338 mould of the same design and hunt up some 338 GC's. IMO the .329 is entirely too small for the 8x56R, even with a tight barrel.
