This working up a load sure is strange! I loaded up my .303 Enfield again and went to the Range. I'm shooting a 185 gr. round nose from lee. I started with 13 gr. of 2400 and loaded up in 1 gr. increments. I loaded with and without Gas Checks, filled with Cow and without. The only loads that shot well were the 17 gr. and 20 gr. of 2400 with Gas checks and no filler. It's strange that niether the 18 or 19 gr. loads would hold a group, as a matter of fact the 18 gr. loads would hit at least 6" high and well spaced out. The 19 gr. load's were just erratic. Strange how 1 gr. of powder can make such a big difference in how a gun fires.

harmonics probably... the vibrations going through the barrel as the bullet left the muzzle were not suited to accuracy for this given bullet. Every extra grain of powder probably just changed the "pitch" till it was once again a smooth trip out....

That would be my take anyway.

I don't know but with that much air space in the case how do you expect to get any
consistency out of that 303 ? Even with fillers your asking it to do something it was
never designed for like PIWO said the vibs ar'nt there and the sealing of the bore and chamber are cases anealed and soft lead soft just my thoughts!

..............Yup works like that sometimes. With some cartidges and in guns with sights good enough (like scopes) it's work up in one grain increments, and then come back and do half grain loads either side, or even smaller increments.

I have the lee 303 mold as well. I usually get under 2" group at 100 yds last week I tried with no GC and the boolits would not hit the paper I'm talking about 1.5' x 1.5' paper here. I use 26gr of 4064 and my best 50 yd group was 9/16".
