lee 310 44 cal in rifles

what about unique, blue dot and AA5744 or others Not maxed out recoil pounding loads But mid range velocity I am looking to drop deer sized game out to 100 yrds or so 10 grains of unique???been looking I have several manuals
not really anything there either and do not wanna down load h110. Ideas folks?????

I don't recall the charge, but I used the 310 lee with Unique in my 1894 and was happy. I was just busting cans so I decided to buy the 200 lee for that duty.

I use the 310 with 13-14 grs of 2400 in a 4 inch Redhawk.

A 250 gr pb will handle all the needs that you want. I have only used that bullet in a carbine as a shoulder wrencher with WC820 powder.

I use 10.5gr of Unique behind a 240gr LSWC in my 6.5" Smith and get 1200fps. Start at 9 and work your way up until you're happy.

I am experimenting currently with the Lee 310 in my 1894 Marlin. It has proven the most accurate Cast proj I have shot. Not much good though as it will not feed reliably from the magazine.

I followed book loads, started at 18 gr ADI AR2205 [ H4227 ] and stepping up in 1 gr increments. I seated the proj in the 2nd crimp groove. My Lever popped open - too hot. The 310 gr did shoot very accurtely though.

Next I seated the projectiles in the 1st crimp groove and dropped my Powder charge to 15 gr AR2205 [ H4227 ] and was surprised the projectile still shot accurately with such a reduced charge over the Book Loads. Marlins have a 1:38 twist so in theory it should not have shot as accurately. 16 gr of AR2205 was the hottest load I tried second time around but it offered no advantage over the 15 gr load. Feeding was no good

Next range visit I plan to try the Lee 310 in cases trimmed to .44 Special length to see if the shorter overall length helps feeding. I doubt it as the metplat catches on the top of the chamber when crimped in the 2nd crimp groove and the bottom when crimped in the 1st. Also the 1:38 twist and much reduced velocity may prove a bridge too far.

I think I'd be better off with a rnfp cast proj in the 250 to 270 gr range for fuss free function through the 1894's tube mag

Any thought on John Taffin's suggested 10.0 grains of Unique under the Lee 310 grain bullet?

10 gr. is/was a classic load for 250 gr. LSWC, and I don't think I'd go there immediately with a 310 gr. bullet. Lee lists a Unique load of 6.5 to 7.2 for the 310 though.

Jacko.357, Ranch Dog has a good designed bullet of 265 gr., RNFP, gas check with micro-grooves for alox. I shoot them in my .44 Puma with a med. to stiff load of Blue Dot. Fairly accurate with no leading, and (from what I've read ) a real game getter...

I use 14.7 gr 2400 with my lee 310 gr my rifle is a ruger 77/44 I shot two deer with it this last year I think it's running around 1370 fps. The heavier loads didn't shoot as good. If you are looking for economy out of a pound of powder 14.7 gr goes along way.

I use the exact same thing in my win lever with a 24", I used 16.6gr #9 WLP COL @ 1.700 and chrony'd them at 1460-1470 FPS. And yes I did get flinchitus after the first 3 and stopped at 5, those were some heavy thumpers.

Jacko: chamfer the chamber mouth about .040. That will fix the bullets hanging up on the chamber mouth.

I haven't actually shot any of these boolits but I just came by one of the moulds about a month ago. The Meplat and nose section of that boolit when crimped in the front crimp groove is the same as a LBT WFN 250 gr Boolit.

By chamfering the chamber mouth you remove the sharp edge which is digging into the edges of the meplat.

It works really well!
