I thought about getting the Lee C338-220-R to use with .338 Win mag. but am keeping myself very busy casting for .30-.30 and .45-70
Cast bullet handbook has some info.

I too thought about casting for a 338 Win mag with a Lee mold but I have never located any gas checks for them so if anyone has seen them please let me know.

Over a few years, I've put together quite a bunch of .338 moulds, both of older and newer designs.

In all honesty, after dealing with three different rifles and at least seven bullet designs, the LEE design has given me better results than anything else (so far, anyway). When the .338 LEE becomes available in a two-cavity format, supposedly this year, I am gonna be VERY close to the front of the line!

Rest assured that the LEE design takes a back seat to nobody else's .338 bullet. It also works quite well for making two-alloy softpoints, which I found out recently.

The gaschecks are out there, somewhere. Have you tried Midway? I got some .338s in the monster Gator-check group buy which Felix organized so well. As soon as they arrived, I wondered why in blazes I hadn't ordered MORE (dang it).

Thanks fellas, I dont even remember where I got it but when I seen it I new it was going to be my new avatar. Oh, and by the way I found some 338 gas checks on Hornady's web site Midway did not carry them, Now all I need is for Lee to make a sizer to crimp on the gas checks.

I really like the RCBS 200gr FP. It worked great in a .33 Winchester and has done the same in my Ruger M77 .338 Win Mag. I can seat the base of it to the base of my .338's neck and still chamber with very light engraving. 30gr's of SR-4759 gives me 1800 fps and very nice groups.

What BruceB said!

338 Mag, WLR 39.0 IMR3031 or M-9 (either), Lee 338 RNGC with 50/50. I forget Chrono data, will look it up LATER!

I have never mentioned this loading data if you do something stupid and blow yourself up!

Works for Hornady 200 FP 33 Win bullet also.

So far RCBS 200 FNGC ( I bought to use for hunting) is less than stellar. Mucho loading yet to try!
Peabody's 4759 load is the first on my list . . . NOW!!!

size them down to .329 and shoot them in my 8x56 steyr.

twohoescharlie;
I used to fire them in an 8X56, also. However, I did not have to be concerned with sizing them down as the groove diameter on that one was .336. Accuracy was better than any of the old surplus I found, it was still "minute of coyote" for my eyes and open sighted shots - even without any gas check. Kind of sorry I got rid of that Steyr. It operated pretty smooth, but the trigger was hopeless! Currently do my straight pulling in a K-31.

trigger can be fixed with a lighter spring from McMaster-Carr.
I have 11 of these little carbines and have replaced springs in all of them.
