I have figured it out, the half stock plains rifles remind me off and evoke the same feelings of familiarity as my win lever guns. My first is my fathers old '92 in 25-20. but the look and the somehow elegant slab sided -ness of them just is timeless for me. I think now that I look at them that the hawks are just sticking in my mind the same way the '86 does.....

Some day I will have one and see if they come to shoulder and point as readily as my Winny's

A well-made front stuffer is a work of art as well as of functional beauty. I suppose that can be said of anything though. Certainly, what we might call the "ergonomics" of the long gun were thoroughly worked out long before the invention of the metal cartridge, so if the gun is of the right dimensions for you, it will shoulder, balance and point as well as anything. The half-stock plains rifle is a very mature technology in that it came several hundred years after the first long guns.

Old school cool. I was at a shooting range with one of my Hod Rod Renegades. Some guys were shooting milk jugs for practice with CF rifles. One asked to shoot my rifle. I loaded it up and took a reading on the range finder and set the sight. I hand him the rifle and asked him if he knew how to use a peep. He said yes and I told him to hold on the sticker on the jug. He shot and hit the bottle and it blew up. We looked at it and he hit it on the side. He was amazed. He said that was the best shooting ML he had ever shot. I asked him if I could give it a shot. We were still at 150 yards. I told him I was aiming for the sticker. After the jug blew up we walked down and looked at it. He picked it up and said Damn Quigley that was a good shot. The side hammers can get er done. Ron

Greywuuf i feel the same way! I have a large assortment of guns a little bit of everything, but my half-stocks are my favorites! Heck the ones i have are not even custom builds! Just a few old T.C.s that i have changed this and that on. Here lately i have been looking at the Leaman style half-stocks and thinking maybe i might own one soon?
