I went to Dutchman's Camp for an invitational shoot yesterday. It's continuing today, but with the rain coming down, I though they could do without my presence. We were rained on several times yesterday, along with some small hail.
Dutch always has some interesting twists to his shoots. The first match was a muzzleloader trail walk, followed by a .22 trail walk in the afternoon. Both were great fun. Today, a long range trail walk is scheduled, followed by BPCR X-sticks match.
Here's a few pictures from yesterday, in between rain showers.
The first is the timer event. You have your rifle at the ready, then drop a lead ball in the coil of copper pipe. You have to shoot and hit the target, before the ball hits the can. You need to be pretty quick on this one.
The next picture is shooting from the opposite shoulder than you are accustomed to. Awkward, but we get regular hits.
Next, is JT on the .22 course. Any .22 was allowed, so there were singleshots, semi's, and pistols used. Targets ranged from 15 yards, to 200 yards.
The last picture is me, on the starvin' stud. First shot is to split the ball on an ax blade, and break a clay pigeon on each side. (Got them!) Then, you must reload while on the horse, without letting your rifle touch the ground, then shoot another target at about 80 yards. When shooting, you had to keep the reins in your mouth. As Dutch's mule had been chewing on the reins, they had an interesting flavor.
A fun day, with a pot luck, and payout for the shot. Five bucks to enter each shoot, with 100% going to the winner. Then aggregate scores are used to determine position, and all had put in a blanket prize, of $30 minimum value.
I ended up with another batch of rifle primers, which always come in handy.

Cool! How far away was the ax blade? I've always wanted to try that.....

I would guess it was around 12-15 yards. Get any farther, and you have trouble defining the edge of the axe. To practice, borrow someone elses ax!

...........Waksupi, looks like a bunch of fun. Some friends get together and just have a ball. Yup, them guns are BAD things! We're gonna be shooting muzzle loaders for the Burrito Invititational this Tuesday, btw.
