I've been having lower back problems for quite awhile. Lately it has gotten worse and I'm not so sure that part of it is my billfold. It's a trifold but not that thick. Anybody ever had a problem with theirs and if so, what the heck do you carry your stuff around with? I figure that a money clip ain't big enough but maybe I'm wrong.

Try carrying it in the other pocket, see if that makes any difference.

What about chairs? Are you sitting in a different chair lately? Is your bed worn out?

If I am on a long trip on the bike or in the car, the wallet goes in a fairing pocket or the center console till I need it when I stop. I learned this lesson the hard way. Start doing a few 6 or 7 hundred mile days on a motorcycle and you will find what is not comfortable. I certainly do believe a wallet can cause back pain especially if you sit a lot.

I had the same problem a few years ago while driving alot. I switched to a thinner western style wallet and change which pocket I used every so often.

I had hip problems in May. My chiropractor told me to take the wallet out of my back pocket, at least until the problem was resolved...Ray

I use a money clip. Not much money, so it works out. I keep all those extra cards I don't need all the time, in a wallet in the glove compartment.
If the lower back problem is fairly recent, go to a podiatrist, get some orthotics that fit you right, then see a chiropractor. Don't get those one size fits all Walmart orthotics.

I wear a lot of pants with cargo pockets and that's where I carry my wallet. I carry my hammerless snub nose in the back pocket where one would normally carry a wallet.

Good ideas guys. I have a great bed and this is a problem that has been getting a little worse as time goes by. I will try a thinner wallet and carry in my front pocket. I'd try Jim's idea but you'd get 20 to life for the revolver in the pocket in Illinois...... Nice place huh.

Find out which of your legs is the longest and put a heel lift in the other shoe. I was told to move my wallet also, years ago, problem did not go away until a physical therapist told me my right leg is shorter than left. Put a heel lift in my right shoe and pain went away next day.

Charlie, you said your wallet is thin, but those hundred's you carry are the same thickness as the one's I carry. Don't let Obama find out about yours. . . he's caused mine.

My cousin who's in his mid-60s, and drives a long route as a certified, bonded courier picking up lab specimens (bottles of P, mostly,) told me he switched from a belt to suspenders and that helped his lower back pain a lot. He also recommends using a wide suspender strap with buttons. Carries his wallet either in his jacket or front pocket.

There was another thread on this here somewhere. I have been putting my wallet in my front pants pocket it cut almost all my back pain. Recently it started again I was carrying 2 45 clips in back pocket and should have known better.

I don't sit down much during the work week but, I have noticed that when my back hurts- sitting on a wallet doesn't help. I read somewhere that a person's stomach muscles influence back pain. Supposedly, they offset and stabilize one's back.

I took all the credit and discount cards out of my wallet, and put them in a special one, made by a member here. That made over 3/8" diff in the hip pocket. While it didn't fix all the back pain, it sure helped a lot.
I can't remember who it was that made the card wallet, but it has the "Cast Boolit" logo tooled into it.

I carry one of these http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product__10151_-1_10051_10203877_625010005_625000000_625010000?cm_ ven=bazaarvoice&cm_cat=CAT&cm_pla=625010000&cm_ite=productdetails_link but in canvas. I thinned out the number of cards i carry and no longer have as much back pain.

I'll be moving out of Illinois in two years (retire from work) if I can get the insurance to cover me and Cindy. I've been by Floyd on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Very nice surroundings. Only been through the pan handle of Texas though. I hear it's hot down there:kidding:

Doctor told my dad (during the consultation for his hip replacement) that thick wallets make him the most money/patients.

Needless to say, the wallet moved to the front pocket.

Why does every store have to have a discount card for points you'll never use?

Yup, I've been carrying my wallet in my front pocket for 20 years now, prior to that I had all kinds of back problems. Would twist my back out at least twice a year, put me down for weeks. Haven't had a back problem since moving it to the front pocket.

For the last 25 years or so I've been using what I call "disco" wallets. They're bifold and very thin so they don't break the line of your pants while you're cruising the bars, or something like that.

They're typically very thin leather. Most have been marked "deerhide", about the thickness of the cardboard on a cereal box. Just a pocket for your bills and some slots cut in the front to slide cards into, no foldouts, plastic accordion card carriers, etc. Mine, loaded, is about 3/8" thick.

Lifetime seems to be six or seven years, I'm on my fourth and it's time to look for another. They're seldom in style, and therefore usually hard to find.

Mine has: money, driver's license, library card, medical insurance card, and a VISA card for emergencies. I no longer carry gas cards, ATM card, or debit card, having moved to a cash basis as much as possible.

Cards in a breast-pocket type wallet, carried in my jacket.... bills in a money clip in a front pocket. I don't always do that, but often when I will be in cars or planes all day.

I carry all my keys in my left front pocket.
In the right i carry: change, bills (few), my CC pouch (dreivers, social security, hunting license, Iain Sinclair knife and bank draft card) and a ceramic folder.
