Hi Guys Enjoying my education here. Been a bit of a lurker, but have a question I hope I can get help with. I was given a bunch of Remington 44 Mag brass, primed with LRMag primers. Can I use these in my 1894S or should I them out and replace with regular LR primers? Thanks in advance

I would certainly shoot them, they may not always be necessary but I wouldn't waste a "bunch". If you have a favorite recipe just dial it down some. They may not shoot like your favorites but will shoot.

LR=LARGE RIFLE. 44 Magnum casings are spec'd for LARGE PISTOL...You're looking for trouble using the LARGE RIFLE. You can CAREFULLY remove the primers without damaging them...use safety glasses, etc and BE CAREFUL!!!!!

With a few exceptions, primers go by what the cartridge was designed to be fired in.

Since the .44 Mag was designed as a pistol round, it uses pistol primers.

I would shoot them with no powder, no projectile if not pushing them back out of the cases. ... felix

If they are large pistol mag primers, they are fine to load with your powder of choice. If you are using a powder like H110/W296, they are recommended. If you are using something faster, as long as you stay off the top end loads, they will be fine.

+1 vote here.

BUT:

When you buy new primers don't waste you money on the LP Magnum primers. You don't need them.

Im a novice reloader, but I sure like Winchester Large Pistol Primers.
They're in between a standard and magnum primer, leaning closer to a magnum.

Those are fine and what most guys use. The WW primer is also good.
I only use a standard primer because I get better accuracy in the .44.
Nothing at all due to danger, just stay away from LR primers.
