Hello All,

I am thinking about a custom gun .500 S&W project with a 16 inch barrel, but, I don't know what rate of twist will work best for me.

I found a barrel blank with a 1:19 rate of twist, but, I don't know what weight of bullets will be best stabilized by that twist rate.

I would like to be able to buy and use cast bullets through the barrel, and I think the 440 grain LEE mold is one of the few available for the .500 S&W.

Thanks for the advice in advance!!!

1:19 is pretty steep. 50 BMG uses 1:15 and it'll easily stabilize 1000gr. cast boolits. My muzzleloader is 1:28 and shoots 500gr. S&W boolits just fine. I guess it'll depend on how heavy you want to shoot, but for normal weight S&W boolits even 1:32 should be plenty fast.
