Do we have member numbers? I would like to see how much of an old fogey I am on this forum.

EDIT:

Just checked the "members list" and sorted by join date.

I am #21.

IIRC, I was a lurker on the old board, and joined this one when it started.

20,000 people later and I still have only 304 posts.

Great to have 20K members
But , I just wonder
How many post at least once in a while ?
Or how many are nothing more than lurker's that signd up ?
Or how many signed up and never stop in ?

From what I have seen when checking for a MEMBER about 20% are active and most of the rest are here for the information and never post.

Could be they are just bashful.

This board is GREAT! I am retired so I have time to post do other things to make those around me miserable. That said, the amount of knowledge available on the site is outstanding. Many members who do not post a great deal can benefit from the discussions that show up here. The members as a group, have much experience and in depth understanding. I was once told by a very intelligent gentleman: "That I never met a really good shot that I didn't like." To a great degree that applies to the members of this board.

Well, I read a LOT more than I post. Aside from the fact so many here know more than I do about casting, I am still working for my living, and, therefore, others have already said what I would have said, had I been online during the day, which was when the question was asked. Whew, long sentence!

Any other working folks find that keeping up on the forum can cut into the time available for casting, shooting, etc? :D

Becoming a member and casting my own boolits has done wonders for my complexion over the years.

I seem to be developing a growth on my backside though, and I've been having trouble sitting upright lately.

I think you need to see a doctor! They will probably recommend a specialist and a plastic surgeon. I would recommend wearing a large hat and turtle neck until they get you fixed up or people will look at you funny. :bigsmyl2:

Some guy (from this site) was on another forum, explaining about shooting cast and getting all kinds of flack from the moderator for doing so. This guy called bullets-- Boolits, said you could shoot cast over 1,000 fps, BHN was only a guide line, each gun was different, all kinds of crazy stuff (according to the other forum). I decided to to to this renagade forum (Cast Boolits) and see for myself what was going on over there.................. needless to say, this forum had completley different ideas on what you could do with cast and they WORKED! Glad I found this place.

I went back and sorted the members list by join date, it's amazing that only a handful of the original members of Castboolits itself from the first 100 or so I looked at HAVEN'T been lurking in the past few days. A couple of those who haven't been on in a while aren't with us any more. I wondered what has happened to many of the older members, the ones who were still posting regularly when I joined. It seems many are still here, but have their reasons for not posting so much.

The later "members vs. last-visit" pages are almost the reverse.

Whether or no size matters in sex organs is a topic of continuing discussion. When it comes to boards such as this, size, size can present more problems than good things gained... just saying!

Buckshots perspective on why many Old Timers are silent or absent is essentially correct. I am in email contact with some of them and some also are not happy with the increase in size and the dilution of knowledge that brings with it. I also think they miss the intimacy that this board once had.

Well I have to be honest, I lurked back a long time before I signed up. I signed up to learn how to cast, but then as has been mentioned life sort of got in the way.

I still come in more than I post as I really am learning and don't have much to add about casting. Now I can throw down on some handloading, or J-bullet junk, but I learned if you don't know your way around a conversation, to keep my mouth shut, at a young age.

I for one appreciate all that have helped me out in the past months to get up and rolling. I might not have it down just yet to a dotted I, but I am sticking with it. My main hold up is I only have a limited supply of lead, and what I have I hate to shoot up. I'm building it up little by little with he help of a few members here, and there. I did somewhat score a little prize the other day however in about 100 or so pounds of plain dead soft. It might make up a good batch or two, if I work it just right with the dozen or so rolls of tin solder I got from a co-worker.

So if any of you older members, feel up to posting up on some of the topics, PLEASE DO SO. I understand about new comers, but everyone was a new comer once, and even some who have been around a while still need a little guidance.

I fall in the middle I guess, I'm not so new any more, and my guidance system seems to get more off as time passes.

I harbor ZERO "newcomer prejudice", in fact I dislike that sort of seniority-based nonsense pretty intensely. EVERY ONE OF US was new at boolit casting at some point in time, and I was lucky enough to have a Dad that hunted with me and who brought around mentors for me to learn bullet casting and reloading from. I understand quite clearly that a lot of new shooters lack mentoring or guidance on progressing and developing their hobby interest, and I almost reflexively try to assist however possible in these venues where I can.

That willingness to assist has been the hallmark of this site since its early origins, and while sheer volume of posts may conceal some of that.......the tendency is still alive and well here. Perhaps if the threads were cataloged in more concise formats, a search would be shortened.....but the site's search option is pretty functional. Let's not "fix" things that aren't broken.

AnthonyB
09-21-2011, 09:27 PM
Agree with Al. There is no newcomer predujice, and I've sent many hundreds of cast boolits to newbies looking for things to try. I've been burned on very few deals.

Early August of 2003, I then opened CB on what was trumped as a "free" host that soon morphed into a leech of unimaginable proportions, docking me a nickle for every page view and new post. It was unsustainable even with help from the membership.
We moved to the Gunloads domain in march of '05 and have had solid and successful
service ever since.

I never imagined trying to manage this many people, and I was not aware of the need for multiple degree's in psychology and business to run a forum.

I founded this forum with one mission, to expand my own knowledge about the silver stream and make that skill set available to others. That remains the mission for me.

I am a refugee from the Yahoo CB-L forum. I quite because I got chewed out for using "boolits" by the forum "nazi"
Willbird from this forum turned me on to casting around 92 or so. Learned a lot about casting from the CB forum and reading Verals book. Cast Boolits has been my home since I found it.
