Colorado bears on average are a bit small from what I hear. My neighbor shot a four year old 150 pounder the other day, and says his looked like this one. How old do you think he is and how much do you think he weighs? The average bear here stands three foot at the shoulder. This feller may be a bit short of that? I'm thinking about four and 100-125 lbs? The DOW guys at the check station told him his bear was a good size for Colorado. This has me second guessing if this guy is average size or a pup. Thanks John

I'm leaning towards pup too. That's why I use the term average with the pictures. No reason to shoot a smaller bear. Would like to see him this season anyway.

I think he is immature... his head still looks big for his body, and his ears still look big for his head.

If you shoot him, he will look more like a dog when you get up to him.

Thanks for the input. I knew he was small, but after looking at pictures and reading online you can tell he is to young also. I went to Bass pro today and looked at bear mounts. They had some small bears but you can tell they were older by standard features you judge them by.

Agreed. Like hogs, bear are hard to judge @ times. A close look @ the head is helpful. That Brutis bear is awesome, almost makes me wish we had them around here....almost.
