Hello, I need help with another load. I am loading a 160 grain gas checked boolit in my SKS. I would like to use Unique because I load it in .45ACP, 12 gauge and 7.62x54R. Any favorite pet loads or start and stop pressures.

Unique will get it out of the barrel, and possibly with accuracy, but it is entirely too fast a powder to operate the action and feed as a semi-auto. Try 4198, 1680, Rel 7 , and even a case full of 4895 as possible loads. There are quite a few threads on the same cartridge and boolit you are wanting to use. Search it and see.

I shoot the Lee Harris 155g in the 7.62 x 54 with 12g of Unique quite a bit.It will shoot 1.5" in a scoped Russian 91-30

Doubt you'll get a functioning load with unique,You should be able to use 2400 and slower powders with good results though. Another option if your stuck on Unique is to get a spare gas rod spring and take a few coils off of it. Swap the original back with standard loads.

I like 2400 with the Lee .312 dia. bullets,my Chinese SKS runs all day long on 12.5 grs. and I just have to bend over and pick up the brass at my feet,14.5 grs. pretty much mimics shooting steel case Russian ammo with the exception of the MV being about 300 fps. slower but Ill take 7/8 or smaller groups all day long over MV.

My Yugo SKS takes a full load of 15.0 grs. to cycle reliably,I have run across some Yugo and Russian SKS that want cycle reliably with the Max. load of 2400 for those I've found 18.0 grs of Reloaded #7 works every time. And since I use Reloader #7 as my main power for J bullets in the SKS it's a powder I always have around.

I use 15 to 17 grains of 2400 in my AK, depending on how much I have in stock. Its amazing how accurate those bullets are out of those guns. My brass catcher picks up all my brass for me. If you can find one, it is well worth the investment. Mine was only about $15 ten to twelve years ago. I tried 30 grains of BLC2, and it shot great, but it is twice the powder for the same result.
