Yellowstone is a great place and I always enjoy my visit.
On the other hand Luke, while I know that he also enjoyed Yellowstone and had a good time, I found out that he was deathly afraid of Grizzly bears.
Now, I have a certain amount of fear of bears myself and I respect them, but the fear Luke had was, I feel a little over the top.

The first night he insisted that I keep the food in my tent because I had the gun.
(I did have a handgun with me, I packed it on the second motorcycle that I shipped to California. A S&W 329 with hardcast 310gr boolits.)
I told him that it would be better if he kept the food BECAUSE I had the handgun. His argument was that his hearing was better than mine and he would not sleep through an mauling like I was libel too.

My argument was that I was a better shot and had a steadier hand than him and was not likely to shoot him in the excitement as he might with me.

I suggested that we take turn holding the food at night. That did not have much appeal to my son at all.
On and on we had our heated discussion the first night in Yellowstone, until he suggested that we hide our food in the bushes near the neighbors tent was.
His logic was that if a bear came during the night and got the person in the next campsite "we" could go over there and shoot the bear and be heroes.

I gave him the gun and said, "Here, you be the hero. I'm going to bed."
Another problem solved!

After we left Yellowstone and all the food crumbs on the ground behind we went out the east gate on Highway 14 to Cody. Before Cody we stopped at Cody Dam and looked it over and took some pictures.

I've been through Cody many times and I kept telling myself "One day I have too stop and go through the museum." This was the day.
I took a lot of pictures of unusual guns and other things, here are a few.

This is an old stagecoach that was refinished and donated to the museum.
There were two guys singing "Bluegrass" and they were pretty good.

We spent the better part of the day here and had supper in town before moving on to the next camp.

As far as food in the park, they want you to have food in bear proof containers stored a hundred yards from your campsite. Not practical a lot of times! Same applies on any public land in the west.
Looks like a great trip!

Hickory, in some wild areas signs have been posted to educate the public on Grizzly bear ettiquite. Hopefully these help to alleviate the fears most city folk have.
If only people took the time to read it!

I kept telling my son that bears were the least of his worries.
Stupid drivers were the greatest danger we would encounter.

Well they are a concern. At least two people have been mauled or killed by griz in Yellowstone this year.

O K, what am I doing wrong ???
This thread has 137 views and not one person made any comment about the sign.
I am wondering if anyone actually clicked on it and read it?
I thought it would get a couple of laughs at least.
Maybe I should have used :bigsmyl2: or[smilie=s:
Perhaps I am the only one that found it funny??

I loved it the first time I saw it a few years ago.
