Well, I set out the deer feeder (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-30-1.jpg) to see how many are round this year. But every mornin I check the feeder, it's empty and turned over. Now I know the deer and/or the turkey won't eat it all like that. They never have before. So I set out a trap (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-30-4.jpg) and I went over this mornin to see what has been eating all my corn and this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-30-2.jpg) is what I found. Now iffin it would of been a possum, I would of shot it in a heart beat. But a feel different bout these critters. So I loaded him up (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-30-3.jpg) and took him to the other side of the creek and up the hill. Bout 1 1/2 miles away. If he's smart, he will stay up there, he comes back,, he's a goner. Just to be safe, I set up two (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-30-5.jpg) traps for tonight.
PS: Yep, i know I can eat coons, just don't want to at the moment.

Hobbles, I enjoy the pictures of your adventures. I can't help but think about coon skin hat whenever I see one. I'll bet you know how to make one, and I'd love to see it . I have a trap like that also, but down here, you just never know what might turn up in it! My worse fear is the dreaded SKUNK! I'm told that a skunk is hard to deal with. You have to sneak up with a tarp and throw it over the trap before he sprays. Keep the cool photos comin, my friend!

Afternoon superior,
Ya know, a western hat (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/Horse%20days/jw-music1.jpg) just don't keep the ears warm in the winter, so a few years ago I got me an yote (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/made/coyote.jpg) and made a hat (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/made/yotehat.jpg) outta it. Now my ears are warm in the winter.

I NEED a hat like that!!! I don't care if I live in Texas!! I've lived in many states, being a military brat and having served myself, and I've always wanted a hat like that! We get some cold weather snaps down here ( enough to want a good and super cool hat) and I'd love to have one just like that one! I won't have a problem shooting a coyote...I just don't know how to skin it and tan the hide. Man, I'm envious! Very nice, Hobbles!

crabo,
If you hit the "Quote" button on the my posts with the pictures in it, you will see how it's done. [ url=picture ]word[ /url]. Don't use the spaces I did. I use Photobucket to host the pictures and I use the 2nd line under the pictures.
Once you get it figured out it's easy, (isn't everything that way?) If you need any help, just ask.

superior,
The only hard part is skinnin the head/face, I don't do the tannin, I have that done. I live by the Mennonites and had a youngen do that one, The one I did out west, I found a guy that did it and sent it to him. I'm lazy.

Mornin Boys,
Well, maybe good news. Both traps were empty (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-31-1.jpg) this mornin, the other deer feeder was also empty and still standin up (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-31-2.jpg) and I see where the deer made their bed (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-31-3.jpg) near it. I'll keep movin the feeders to where I want em. Should take bout 3 days then I'll go and sit in my blind (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/8-31-4.jpg) a few days and take pictures of what stoppin by. No worries, I still got 6 weeks.

Well Boys, the darn deer have moved on me again. Their not by any one of my 6 old blinds, so I had to make another one over by the pond. I found a good place and started buildin. This is the in side (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-18-a.jpg) of it and this is the out side (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-18-b.jpg). I got the seatin (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-18-c.jpg) figured out and it works pretty well. I set up the feeder about 75 feet away (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-18-f-1.jpg). I have a good view (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-18-e.jpg) of it and am happy with the set up.

Mornin fishhawk,
I know the rules out west were bucks only, but back here we can take 4 deer a year and one can be a buck. If we hunt on our property we don't need a license. I'm amazed at the different rules there is for different states.

Had a small racked 8 pt. eating at the Frau`s bird feeder yesterday morning about 1/2 hr. after daylight. Two nights before there were 6 deer eating apples out by my barn, 4 of the deer were antlered and not really getting along with each other.Robert[smilie=w:

Hobbles, you are a man after my own heart; an accomplished Old World skill-set fellow and technologically advanced to boot! I know you can probably use only about 4 deer per year, but KY allows bonus tags @ $10 each for antlerless with no limit in most counties. We are at about 1 million Whitetails in KY this year according to our local Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Warden and with 40+ Boone & Crockett entries for each of the last five years, KY is really becoming a place to hunt. No matter where you hunt, if you have Does coming into your areas and they feel comfortable there, the Bucks will find them when the rut sets in. I have had the pleasure and priviledge to hunt a good friends farm for the last 16 years and I have taken many fine Bucks that were never seen before on his property. They range far and wide during the rut and even though we are hunting on a measely 98 acres, the Does are for the most part unmolested on this farm. When the pressure is on the Does know where to go to escape the onslaught of Pumkins sitting in the trees around his property and drag more than a few shooter Bucks with them. Times are tough lately and we have not had the funds to plant food plots as we have done in the past, but they still know where to go to escape the "if its brown its down" club. Will say I have seen and shot far more coyotes over the last few years than in the past.
Keep up the good work Hobbles!!!

Mornin Boys,

Got-R-Did,
I agree, there are a lot of deer here. They like to come in and eat the horse's salt block (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/deer/deer-5.jpg). And they know when it's huntin season, Kentucky deer have an attitude (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/deer/deer-tung.jpg).

In PA they made it legal to bait in my corner of the state (near Philly) It only lasted two years. Well anyway I had hundreds of pics of does and one small buck. At night you could always see the eyes in the background. While hunting over the feeder the does would be there feeding and the buck would hover around the feeder area and intercept the does. In two years of hunting like this I never seen so many buck on my property. Just because they arn't coming into camera range dosen't always mean there not there

I don't know if its visible in the pic or not but, can anybody see the gash on this does neck? I had a better pic but must've deleted it. What do you think had hold of her? I got this on my trail camera a week or so ago. Could be coyotes or maybe a bobcat? I've not checked the camera in several days and don't know if the old girl is still with us or not.

If it where a predator the wound might go top to bottom or sideways. I agree with the other guys about the barbed wire. Its perfect front to back like she jumped through the wire fence. Seen my share of wounds on live stock from barbed wire. That deer is lucky they can get pretty nasty

The more i look at it the hair right between the shoulders looks to be gone and at the very edge of the photo there looks to be another wound. My guess is wire even more now. steve k

up date,
0k, first off, I like my trail camera, It has been runnin for 46 - 47 hours and the 4 C batteries are still at a full charge. One thing I learned tho is NOT to set it to take pictures every 30 seconds, 87 pictures are way to many. I think I will set it for 2 minuets.
I went over to my NEW deer blind at 10:30 AM today and the feeder was empty. Coons again? Nope, it's all deer. 87 pictures of em.
I have been learnin my camera, there are things that the instructions don't mention.
First off I got to check to make sure what's in the view (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-h.jpg), my first try I had the camera set too high and didn't get anything. But it (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-i.jpg) looks like it's workin this time. Yep, it's workin (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-j.jpg).
This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-b.jpg) is one that came in, it don't like the click of the camera (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-a.jpg) tho. This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-c.jpg) one had a youngen with her. She didn't like the noise either but the youngen don't seem to mind (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-d.jpg) it. Looks like this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-e.jpg) one had 2 with it. Any way, it's deer (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/9-22-g.jpg) and not coons eatin the corn. I moved the camera over to my other blind to see what is over there, I'll know tomorrow. I like this darn $59 camera.

We. wife and I, have been talking about buying a small parcel (five acres or less) in KY. We have friends from Somerset and love KY in general. I still have most of the deer comin in at night, which ain't good cause our ML season is on the 15th and 16th and of course, there's a full moon then. I think they do that on purpose. I do have a few deer comin in the day time (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/10-4-1.jpg), but,, I did have one buck come in at night. Iffin you want to call him a buck (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/huntin/10-2-1.jpg). At least it's a start. Oh well, I'll just keep feedin em and see what happens on the 15th and 16th.
Hope you have better luck than I do. But ya know, if it ain't a buck bigger than the 9 pointer I got, I'll take a doe. Doe are easier for me to skin out and the meat taste better. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hobbles/icons/290.gif

Same rule here in VT if you own the land you can hunt it. No license necessary. They did change the rules a while ago though about baiting deer. Use to be no salt blocks but now you can't put anything out not even apples. Forced me to put in a whole damn food plot complete with apple trees, clover, alfalfa, and oats. Turkeys are loving it too.
