the tikka super varmint I am shure you know that it has the same action lenght for all caliber 223 308 and 30-06 all the same action... so my question is .... I will be shooting cast with it more for bench rest shooting than hunting..... so should I take the 30-06 because it has a long neck and you can put more grease grooves inside of the 308 for its known accuracy..... while I am at it my choice for scope is nightforce but on the cast bullet annual championship every body seems to be using leapold....feedbarc would be appreciated.... thank you

I think all 3 calibers you mention have fine intrinsic accuracy. The 30-06 can do better work with heavier bullets than the 308, if heavy game is in the cards at a later date. That's really splitting hairs, though. For punching paper, either of the 30 calibers will do fine work.

I have several .308s and several 30-06s and shoot cast in all. If I was only going to have one, it would be a 30-06.

by the way the tikka 308 has a interesting rifling twist.... 1 in 11 should be good for heavy 30 caliber bullets....

Yep. I was going to ask about that. I would go with the 308 in this case.

Aw shucks, I figured since you were writing from Canada you had a line on a clean No 4 Mk1 Enfield. I get great splatter shots on Groundhogs here in New York using a 125gr Spitzer (.310) in my 303 British.

One more benifit to the 308 will probably be a shorter throat for lighter bullets. You can rent a 1 degree throater and put in the cast bullet throat of your dreams instead of having to make something work.
