I need a load for 185 grain lead boolits for my Mosin Nagant.
I have loads for 169 gr. and 151 gr, with Unique?
I am using wheel weights that will be water drooped.
I have Unique powder.
I am trying to keep my powder to as fue as possible.

Gorby,

Welcome to the site.

Are your loads for the 151 & 169 grain boolits full out maximum? Or are they reduced? If they are reduced I would just use the same amount of powder for the 185.

I tried Univeral Clays, which is very similar to Unique in my MN but can't find the data. You don't say what level of load you're looking for and that would help. I think I'd start with about ten grains.

Hope this helps at least a little.

I'd sure like to hear how your Mosin cast loads are working out. The Mosin is a very interesting rifle being as it were, the longest serving military rifle in history. The Lee Enfield is close on it's heels. (I think the Mosin is still in service while the Lee Enfield is not?):?:

+1 on the 2400!! Either 18.5 gr under the Lee 185GC or 19.5 gr. under the Lee 155GC will better ball ammo accuracy out to 200M from my Finn-reworked '39 Tula.

Twenty four Hundred does work well in the x54r, but he asked about Unique. And from his use of the English language I'd say he might not be where it's just a trip to the store to get a different powder.

I wish every one would give their locations, it can help.

I second the recommendation to start with 10 grains of Unique. The older Lyman handbooks show data for various bullet weights. They show 13 grains Unique as maximum with a 200 grain bullet in one manual. I do not think that is a maximum pressure load but just where they stopped. Anyway, I would start at 10 grains and work up slowly. Accuracy will go away long before maximum pressure is reached with a cast bullet (usually). I wouldn't go over 13 grains. If I decided I wanted more velocity, I would go to a slower burning powder such as 2400 or 4198.

13 grains of Unique is a darn good load in all of my Mosins with 210 grain boolits. Should be plenty safe with the 185 grain slugs.

Hope this helps, :D

12g Unique is a standard for a 7.62 x 54 Loads from 155-210g bullets for a buddy of mine.I tried 4 years back and haven't regretted it.

I have allot of Unique.
I use it for both 45acp and shotgun.
I'm already loading 2 other powders for different loads so having 1 powder for 3 calibers is nice, and cheap.
My English is bad because of Dyslexia. I read a little above college level but me English writing skills are only 4th grade. So please be kind.
I have lurked here for over a year but because of my English writing skills I do not post much.

that Unique will load about any cast bullet in a pistol or rifle you have assuming you dont want to shoot real hot loads.

Gorby,

I wouldn't worry too much about your writting skills. Doesn't count for much here. It's the love of guns and casting that matters.

Using Unique for those three weapons is handy, isn't it. It is a very versitle powder and usually delivers the goods.
