The price for a pound of IMR here in the Nationalist Socialist State of hawaii is $30.00. I think we're getting hosed.
What is the going rate in other parts of the country???

I'm averaging 20-22 dollars a pound depending on the flavor of powder here in Upstate New York.

You are paying through the nose for the shipping to Hawaii.

Fellas,
Please remember who is the distributor for just dang near every powder. And when did Hodgdon gain a lion's share of the market with distribution of Hodgdon, IMR, and Wichester. And when did powder prices really start to go up? See a pattern here???

I have started to use a lot more Red Dot, Blue Dot, Unique, and 2400 and 4759, bought in bulk just because, you get more bang for the buck with small charges in cast rifle loads. We have a Cabellas here, a Bass Pro on the other side of the river, a Scheels, and one large gun store. Prices vary and currently most of the Cabellas and Scheels powders are in the $22.00+ a pound plus tax, the gun store about a buck or so cheaper, and Bass Pro about 2-3 bucks less. It pays to buy quantity thats for sure.

I didn't know that Hodgdon had Winchester too. Says volumes, that. Powder in single pound flasks runs $20-$28 locally.

I saw this coming last summer laid in an extra ten lbs. of powder and 4000 additional primers, all I could afford. At that time, 2400 was under @$20/lb. when bought in bulk, and Green Dot was right at $20 by the lb. Best price was at Sportsman's warehouse.

abunaitoo, unfortunately there is a price for living on the island paradise. You are paying a lot for transportation. I have lived all my life in CA and NV and am old enough to remember when nearly every national ad had a line at the bottom saying, "prices slightly higher west of Chicago."

I still have an old 1 lb. empty Hodgdon powder can on my shelves from the mid 1960's

Marked " H - 4831 " with a price sticker of $1.75.

Oh ! ! ! Those were the good ole' days ........., of course I fail to mention that I was 17 at the time and getting my hands on $1.75 wasn't easy.

I've been reading about the rising powder and primer prices, so I went into a gun shop/reloading store yesterday and bought two bricks of primers. They were the same price I paid a year ago.....1.97 per hundred for CCI 400. Their powders were from $16 for Unique to $19 for IMR. That's also the same as a year ago. I guess the increases haven't hit here yet.

You can go to the Hodgdon web site and look to the right side of the screen for the links to the articles about their distribution rights to IMR and Winchester powders. When everybody was on their own their was at least some competition to help drive prices. Now all they have as competetition is Accurate who just aquired Western Powders or was it the other way around? I liked it better when everybody was in competition. Personal opinion is it makes for a tighter, more competitive market when everybody was on their own. Not that I don't like Hodgdown powder mind you as I have bunches. Its just the principle and it comes at the expense of you and me. Cant help you on why primer are going up other than sheer greed. It can't take that much copper to make a primer.

It seems that prices vary all over the place. This is telling me that some are making big bucks on powder.
Price for powder here is high because of the cost of shipping. It seems the feds are trying make it hard for us to enjoy our sport of choice.
Anyone form The Great State of Alaska???? How are the prices up north????

I try to keep a healthy stock of Milsurp from Bartlett and Hi-Tech and buy everything else (RD, BD, 2400) in jugs big enough to last a while.

This primer incresecaught me fla footed since I went to the last gun show in the aea (Smyrna TN) and the days of reloading supplies at the gun show have dried up!

Maybe I do need one more case of powder from Bartlett before Milsurp goes away!
