I have had a very trying year. Long story. I am ready to get back at it however and will finish a overdue project hopefully this weekend. We set up a new pot that should allow me to work between 70 and 100 pounds of lead at a time. I have several molds that have never been touched so this should be entertaining. The pot is cast iron supported by uni-strut over a 70000btu burner. I am going totaly to laddle pouring and this new set up aloows easy access to the pot. It is mounted to a bench that also serves as a place to set molds while casting with another. Al together we have about 300.00 invested in it which will be cheap if all works as expected. reflex264

I'm about to start casting for the 7.62x39 in a Mini-30. I bought the LEE 155gr mould for the cartridge. I also have a batch of "clip-on" wheelweights to work with. I would like to work up a load running about 2000 fps. Would dropping the bullets into a deep bucket of cold water be enough, or should I go the route of oven heat treating and quenching?

Incidently, I slugged the bore and came up with 0.310, and it's a 189 series.

waterdropping will suffice.
back it down to about 1950 fps.

Is that 50fps really going to make any difference?

runfiverun I'll keep your advice in mind. Normally, velocities can run lower than expected when using a powder that's "too slow" for the application. There's really no load data for TAC in the 7.62x39, and faster powders are usually used.
