View Full Version : Anybody near Athens Georgia interested in a group buy?

I live near Athens, Georgia, actually between Athens and Winder in a town called Statham.

I'm looking at doing a group buy for folks I know living near here. It then occured to me there might be folks on the board here that would be interested. I have one friend living over near John Creek in the Alppharetta/Marietta area who may participate and another one that drives over there.

I know the Lawrenceville area reasonably well, as well as Gainesville and can direct people over near my way to pick up powder.

If you live in this areas and think you might be interested, go to Pat's reloading, check out his offerings and send me a PM. The buy is limited to bulk military powder at this time, but may change to add primers, depending upon interest and if he's willing to give a group discount.

Ok, so far we're looking at somewhere between 8 and ten jugs of powder with three folks participating. That's enough to eliminate hazmat fees. I'm going to try and call Pat and find out how much powder we'd need to buy to for a discount on the powder or at least matching a lower priced vendor. Shipping will be divided evenly between all those ordering.

I will run the buy as closely as possible to the bullet mold buys, with the difference being that once the powder comes it, we'll have a time and a central location to pick up the powder if that's reasonable.

I can't believe there aren't more folks around Atlanta that want to participate. :?

Gentlemen,

Here's where we're at quantity wise, everything in 8 pound jugs:

1 Jugs of WC820
1 Jugs of WC820PD
2 Jugs of WC846
4 Jugs of 7383
2 jugs of WC860

Pat says he gives the hazmat discount for 6 eight pound jugs. I'm
suspecting he packs his boxes with 6 jugs. So we're just two shy of
having enough for two boxes right now. I'll call him this coming week and
confirm how he packs each box. I want to make sure each box is full so we can
avoid any hazmat fees. Full boxes are more economical than partials most times.

Related to the buy:

1. Please be patient. (I'm not saying anybody is impatient, but I want
to put that out there, so everyone is on the same page with what I'm
doing.) I deliberately posted early enough to give folks enough time to read the
post and to reply and/or save up money, etc.

I'm going to give it some time and see if we can get a few more folks to
participate, but right now we can go ahead and buy with the hazmat
discount if we have to.

I'm working on a secondary deal that may be better on primers and I'll keep you posted on that as well.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks for the welcome, Mike. This place is cool as grits. ;)

Y'all tell me, is any of the milsurp powder that Pat has good for paper punching .45ACP, .45Colt, or .357/.38 SPL? I'm getting a jug of WC820 for my .44MAG but I'd go for a jug of some plinking powder, too if any would be suitable.

Thanks!

gwalchmai, Solo 1000 would fit your needs for the .45 ACP, .45Colt and also .38 Special but not the mag. The WC 820 would be good for the .357 mag though...Ray

Ray,

Thanks for helping us out. I'm new to the surplus powder world and don't have much of a clue, but figure it's a good time to learn before it's all gone.

I've received checks from the following area codes:

30096 $160.00
30083 $192.30

As soon as I receive the rest of the checks, I'll deposit and place an order with Pat's.

I'm looking at a distribution location of the intersection of Hwy 316 and Hwy 8 near Dacula. Either on a Friday evening or a Saturday. Please let me know a day and a time that's convenient for you. The majority day and time will be the day I pick. Anybody who doesn't get their powder then can pick it up at my place in Statham, GA after that date.

Dave

Thinking on it and on what mdatlanta said in his email or pm's. I'm leaning more toward Saturday morning as a much easier time to get together based on Atlanta traffic. There's a gas station and a Waffle house at that intersection. I'm thinking the Waffle House.

Smart way to save if one has such an opportunity I think.

Gentlemen,

Here is the final total for the group buy:

1 Jug HS-6
4 Jugs WC846
& Jugs IMR7383
2 Jugs WC860
3 Jugs WC820PD
1 Jug Solo 100

The total, including shipping, was $978.55. Not bad for a few country boys. Pat said "Wow, three six packs." (grin)

I placed the order with Pat this morning. He had everything in stock, but is pretty busy, so it'll be around 2-3 weeks before it actually ships. I'll keep you posted.

This group buy is officially closed for orders. Thank you all for participating.

Sent Pat an email today to check on things and got back the standard response of 2-3 weeks and a one line email. I was left with the strong impression they are pretty swamped right now, so patience is definately a virtue. I know they're only a two man operation and apparently the orders are about to bury them, so please be patient.

I suspect the same may be true of all small one and two man powder dealer operations right about now.

Credit card got hit today for $980.79. I had estimated $978.55, so shipping must have went up a couple bucks. No big deal.

Looks like our powder is on the way in three big boxes. Pickup is either this Saturday morning or next Saturday morning, depending on when it arrives.

Gentlemen,

The powder has arrived, I've checked the packing list, our list and labeled everyone's boxes so they get their stuff. We got everything and everything was received in great shape.

Right now I'm trying for Saturday, March 3 at 9AM for the pickup date, but may delay it until next week if I cannot contact everyone. I will be sending out IM's and calling the folks whose phone numbers I have. Please contact me by phone this evening if I don't have your phone number. I will be pm'ing my phone number as well as emailing.

The meeting place will be the intersection of Hwy 316 and Hwy 8 at the Waffle House there. This is the turn off of Hwy 316 for Dacula. I'll be driving a red 2004 (Square version) Ford F150 work pickup truck with a grey interior. If I'm not in the truck, I'll be in the Waffle House with a Kahki/yelow baseball cap that says Hunter in green letters.

Dave

I just barely got him into reloading now. I'm going to herd him along slowly to the cast boolits. I have him using boolits I cast for him for CAS and target practice. If he starts shooting a little bit more I won't be able to keep up with him.
