I have a Winchester 30/30 made in 1962 in beautiful condition, and I would like to use only with cast bullets and light accurate loads. What is the best combination bullet / powder, and size cast bullet ? Thanks in advance for help,
Sergio.

Any blunt or flat nose Lyman boolit between 150 gr. and 176 gr. (the 311041 is excellant) cast of wheelweights and sized 0.311" on top of about 10.2 to 10.6 gr. of Unique is very good. See the Lyman manual for the listed charges.

Try the 150gr. Lee GC, sized, probably .310 over about 9-10 gr. of Unique for starter. Sort of an ugly boolet, but shoots well in all of my 30's. Lots of good 30-30 cast loads listed on various past threads on castboolits.com. Suggest you review and search for 30-30 loads there. Good Luck.

I have been shooting the lyman 311440 clone over 9 to 10 grains of unique....no checks and tl'ed in LLA ,,have not chronoed yet, but they seem quite slow...and accurate as he77 from an old H&R Topper 158...should make really good practice ammo for the wife, once the weather breaks a bit...that load will knock the socks out of a bunny, and yet not spoil meat...have shot several out the back door with that load lately:-D

I settled on a 165 grain cast seated without gascheck over 6.4 of Red Dot a long time ago. Very quiet, pleasant and accurate. About 1050 fps with my components. Since recommended max loads have been greatly reduced with RDot in recent years I don't know if current Alliant production would give the same velocity as my old Hercules Lot 685.

I don't have a M. 94, but have reloaded for friends with good results using 7 - 9gr Unique and the Lee 150gr. My rifle likes a load of 14gr H110 with 311466, CBE 309162, 31141, 311291, 311299, 311365, or 311284. It is a 1 : 12 twist and seems to handle even the longest of those bullets. There have been no pressure indications, but there may be some overall length concerns and 311365 is very pointed, so single loading only in tubular mag.

Hope this helps.

Lee soupcans (.310) and RE7 (25-27gr). You can't get a lighter, friendlier, but still accurate combination.
