My 1973 or 1974 microgroove version shoots above my expectations with full house loads using the Lyman 255 KT GC and full house charges of 2400, H-110, and AA-9. It also does pretty decent w/ a discontinued Lee 255 SWC PB at just over 1000 fps. It does not shoot worth a crap with any PB bullet I have tried over about 1100 fps.

I don't like GCing plinking bullets, and I don't like being stuck in first gear. The rifle shoots well enough at the top and bottom ranges so it ain't going nowhere. Has anyone had any success with PB bullets in a similar rifle in the 1300-1500 fps range?

Try RL7 if you've got some. It isn't worth much in a wheeler, but you can get the velocity range you want from a rifle. Try something that can handle fouling pretty well. Like a Keith design because there will be some unburned powder. Pressure will be low enough not to ruin the base. More like a blow gun than a rifle.

My wife get's solid 3" at 100 with 22 grains and a 250 Keith. But her's isn't microgroove either. Bullet needs to be ACWW or harder though.
