At the local hock shop there is a Savage 99 in 243 with a cheapo scope for $275.00. That is pre-dicker and I am certain I can get it down to $240 or so. This had been somebody's truck gun and is pretty rough on the outside (metal and wood) but the barrel is bright and shiney on the inside. I can refnish the wood and live with the metal. Seems like a good price to me, but I don't keep up on these rifles.

How is this round with cast boolits?

Chargar---I use the 95 grain RCBS mold and have good results with it. Dep Al uses same bullet and took some honors in Winnemucca past couple of years with it. I use Imr 4227. I tried it on one deer with dismal results, but plinking etc it works great.

I know nothing about the caliber and cast, but that's an excellent price for a 99 in any caliber. I don't think the .243 was an extremely big seller for Savage in the 99, so that might make it worth a small premium. If you don't want it, buy it and send it to me!!

12.0 x 2400 sends the RCBS out at around 1700 FPS, and it jacks up rats right proper. The performance of this boolit in my Rem 788 ranks as one of the bright spots in my cast rifle boolit career, for sure.

Chargar, Although Carpetman & Dep. Al have had excellent results with bore-riding CB's (spire points), I have not. In fact, I sold my RCBS mold years ago and sent my 95gr. Lyman version to John H. because neither performed in my Ruger #1. The Savage, howver, may be a much less demanding than the Ruger. Let's hope it is.

I recently shot some Lyman .243 gc's, my alloy gave me 92gr, I shot at 1500, 1600, 2300 and 2550fps.
I got .3 to .4 " groups at 50 yds with all except the 2550fps loads, they completely missed the 8 1/2 x 11" paper.
The alloy was ww's + Tin, water dropped, sized .243 and shot in my old 788.

I have a 788 in 243. It sits in the safe with a nice 3 to 9 burris on it. I quit deer hunting a few years ago. I'm going to buy a few boolits from the guy on this board that makes custom boolits and try them. If anything looks good, I will sure buy the RCBS mold. Mine has a 9 1/2 twist. Should be good for heavy boolits.
