I was out in the barn finishing up some .38 Specials and decided to try a dozen
.357 Magnum bullets with a new to me powder and lead cast bullets while I had the press and dies out, and forgot to re-adjust the final factory crimping die on 6 of the .357 Magnum shells. This did not buckle the cases but the crimp in the bullets is much steeper than I have ever done before. The finished bullets still load into the cylinder chamber smoothly so am I ok?

should be fine, I will presume your shooting a middle of the road load.

only have too much crimp if 1. Can't chamber because it's swollen the brass some where. 2. Accuracy will be horrible if over crimped, sometimes.

Yeah, I'm with Blammer. I think you're going to be disappointed in the accuracy or lack thereof

You will also likely split the mouths of those cases when fired but there is no danger in that. If they don't split, keep-'em. If they do split, toss-'em

Yep, there is such a thing as to much crimp, just as there is to little crimp on heavy recoiling revolver ammo. It is like Red Riding Hoods porage, it needs to be just right. Good advise from all of the responses.

Yes, you can over crimp. Did you over crimp? I don't know. Shoot them and find out. That is how learning take place. Report back on your experiences and we will all profit from the experience.

They turned out just fine. Thanks...

I would just pull them and try again. When you cast your own boolits the cost of 6 is not worth the worry.

If you're using a taper crimp you can reduce the diameter of the bullet...that affects accuracy and may cause leading.

Close the bell, at a hair more. Adjust as necessary. I run mid range loads so I don't need a heavy crimp for .38 or .357. The same for auto loading pistols.
