No shooting for the Sundog this weekend unless he does it in his barn. My nephew is in Tulsa for a seminar and he is giving me stories of two inches of sleet ice on the ground and painfully low temperatures with nasty wind. I understand the governor has already declared it a disaster area. The seminar tomorrow evening may well be cancelled but he's comfortable enough in the Radisson eating, drinking, and sleeping on the company's credit card. I never had a job like that. He's been all over the country with these seminars and he says Tulsa is the best food he's had yet. He mentioned a couple of strange sounding items, deep fried corn and deep fried pickles; must be a local thing, I never heard of them. Tomorrow night they're going somewhere that has 60 ounce steaks. He may be there awhile if that storm stays around.

If you have not had deep fried corn on the cob, you are leading a poor, and sheltered life. Cook it until golden brown, and have at it. Doesn't need butter, just a touch of salt, and you will have reached the pinnacle of corn eatin'!

Is the corn put in as it comes from the cob or is breaded? I assume that you remove the husk before cooking...

I like it straight from the stalk, strip the husk and silk, and right into the hot oil. Never tried breading it, I think it is unnecessary, as it is a sweet treat as is.

I have found very few things that are not quite tasty when "boiled in oil",,,never have tried corn on the cob,,,but I will now....

Scrounger, I'm 25 miles SE of Tulsa. Coming home yesterday it was 20 mph leaving work. By the time I got part way down the Muskogee Turnpike I was running 70! The girls at the store were surprised to see the accumlation of ice and snow on my Jeep. It was just raining here in town, but 27dF. This morning there is about a quarter inch ice all over everything. More forecast. Power was out for awhile overnight.
I'll be heading out to the range in a bit for the mil bolt match. I suspect there won't be more than a few show up, so we'll shoot from inside the all wx shooting building. It's got a heater and everything! sundog

Thats what I call really roughing it. It's suppose to be a military match isn't it? As on old drill sargent said to me once " what's a matter BOY you to good to get in that mud", I got in the mud.
Actually I'm jealous since I was supposed to shoot a BPCRS match tomorrow and we are suppose to get 6 inches out of that same system.:drinks:

Never had deep-fried corn, but for the last few years I have been eating corn on the cob with nothing on it. It's really good, I can actually tase the corn nstead of butter.

I eat mine the same way. I don't even boil mine. Just strip the husk, and eat 'er raw! Sweet corn tastes like candy when it's raw. Mmmmm....
