Well I felt that since I had tested the velocity of the Lee C452 300 RF in my Raging Bull with a couple of different loads, I might as well put them up on paper and get a bit more serious about how well they shot.

One of the loads was using WC-297 and the other using AA-9, the latter hoping to drop the velocity down a bit. All of the boolits were from my initial pour with half being quenched and the other half being air cooled.

The differences were that the WC-297 loads were tumble lubed with an initial coat of LLA, followed by a finish coat of 45/45/10 after sizing and setting the GC. The AA loads were pan lubed with Felix lube before sizing and setting the GC. Both loads have been across the chrony, with the 297 loads hitting an average of 1540fps and the AA loads ranging from the low end with 1420 to just over 1500fps on the upper end. These varied as the charge increased in half grain increments, from 22.5 - 24.5.

What I found out was, my revolver seems to like three different loads so far. It did take a little to zero it in since the range did not allow shooting from a sitting position. So after I got dialed in here were the final results of the AA loads at 25yds offhand,

The 297 load pretty much mirror the bottom target, but with a whole lot more holes. It started off good but as I got tired, the holes spread out. I am however confident that it shoots as closer than I can hold them. I didn't bother with keeping the target as it looked more like a backer by the time I was done. Overall I put close to 100 rounds down range between this one and my 41mag, in about an hour or so.

The next trip out I will give them a go at 50 so I can have it dialed in for hunting. Most likely get that done this weekend. The other thing I noted was that with the 297 loads the WQ were the ones which shot so well, but with the AA loads it was the AC which had two of the best groups at the middle load and the highest load. I can still drop the charge down a bit, and also raise it up some, but I think I will just stick to what's working for now. I also noted that there is a distinctive difference between the two lubes with the Felix producing quite a bit more smoke than the Alox. It was also much more notable with the lowest charge.

Anyway had a good time and made more progress, I guess the next step is finding some unlucky hog to try one out on.
