I had a freind give me a pair of handles, RCB I believe, That came with a mold attached (sweet). The boolit it cast was .718-.719 long and had a ridge diameter of .431-.432. It is a LSWC. Would it be a 44 mag?

Sounds like that would be about a 250gr 44 caliber. A picture would help alot.

What numbers are on the side of the mold. These will tell exactly what it is.

Stamped Rcbs 44-240-swc

that stamp tells you all you need to know.

Maker = RCBS
Caliber (Nominal) = 44
weight(nominal) = 240gr
Design = Semiwadcutter (swc)

So it should work in a 44 mag, 444 Marlin, or 44 special.

Yep, Kind of felt stupid for not seeing it in the first place. Good Overall Boolit for a 44? Do these need gas checks? Will strait WW work? Dont have a gun to use them with but do have some buddies that do.

Pretty standard 44 mag bullet and usually shoots well.
Yes, you need gas checks unless you just want a real light plinker load then you can probably get away without them.
Yes, WW will work fine.

Remember that it will need to be sized appropriately to do well so you'll need to know what size that mold drops as they are all a little off one way or the other.

The boolit it cast was .718-.719 long and had a ridge diameter of .431-.432. Is that under or over what it should be casting?

That as-cast diameter is about well-nigh perfect for most 44 caliber applications.

The GC isn't needed if there is no gas check shank present. GC shank = rebated area at boolit base. I don't shoot GC designs without checks, but that's just me. Lots of folks do so with great success. GCs are kinda superfluous under 1200 FPS, in my experience.

I think these are set up for gas checks. See pictures.

Yes, that boolit has a gas check shank. Nice looking boolit!

When I bought my Ruger Super Blackhawk it came with a couple of hundred rounds loaded with them and another 500 cast, sized, lubed and gas checked. They shot real well out of that revolver (when someone who knew what they were doing shot it!).
