Bought a new savage MKII in 22lr with accutrigger. Nice gun. Bought a box of every brand/weight/velocity ammo I could find local. (no RWS, TenX or other target ammo). Got groups arround 1" @ 100 yrds with most ammo that was in the 1200-1400 fps range.
Got some aguila SSS (60 gr subsonnic) and like with other rifles , it wouldn't stabilize.
So I thought I would try them in my Beretta 21A pistol. It cycled the slide fine, and every round keyholed at 6 feet! Was able to keep keyholes in a group under 2".
Perfect.
I think I'll keep them in the Beretta for defensive ammo. Think of the wounds!!!

SSS works well in older rifles with long barrels like Mossberg 46, 146 or Marlin 81. I don't have a Win 69 but I bet it would work there.

Bought a 1 in 9" twist barrel for my 10/22. Shoots SSS great.

I'm surprised, I used that stuff in a box stock 10-22 and it worked without a hitch and was accurate to boot.. also used it in a S&W Model 41, again, accurate round holes and groups that were one ragged hole @25 yards..

The SSS ammo is designed for bolt action rifles. It works best with custom barrels with a faster twist rate. With that said, I have no problem getting 1.5 inch groupes from my CZ 452 with a standard 1:16 twist.

My Marlin 39 wouldn't shoot it very well, but I too kept a cheap 8-shot revolver loaded with it for home defense. Then I got a real revolver, and put the .22 in the safe. Still have most of a brick of the stuff. Somebody makes fast twist .22 rimfire barrel blanks, I've seen 'em listed. Might build a boy's rifle with the fast twist someday.

It did not cycle the action in my 10-22 or my Sterling pistol but I wasn't expecting it to. It worked fine for racoon control in my daughter's Cricket last summer.

I have used it in several rifles and it workes fine for me. The only problem I had was my western auto copy of the marlin 60 would spin the short case inside the action after firing and liked to jam on the empty case. My savage trainer LOVES em at 50 yards (1/2 inch open sights). I never have had any keyhole. Just my experience. I did use em in a 1900's remington falling block to kill some 450 pound domestic swine. Penetrated through the skull and deep into the throat. That was from point blank, though.
