Sorry to start a new thread but there is quite a delay in this hemisphere.
Beagle, I used the Loctite high temperature silicone and as you predicted it worked well. Apparently the temperature inside the mold does not reach 600 degrees F.
I used the molds after about 18 hours as I am an impatient coot (full curing time is supposed to be 24hours) and besides the ambient temperature is around 105 degrees F today. I encountered no problems at all casting and the bullets dropped as expected.

The aluminium tape is .003" thickness and the thin smear of adhesive did not seem to increase it as the bullets miked right on .460".

I needed only one strip each side for the Lyman 457-124 but the RCBS 458-405 required 2 on one side and one strip on the other. I experimented before gluing the strips in and found I got the roundest bullets with 2 strips on the far side of the handle pins. Not sure why. I just used a faint smear of adhesive on the aluminium strips and cleaned up the spillage with a citrus based solvent. I wrapped the moulds in rubber bands and left over night.

And the best part is beagling has also increased the diameter of the nose section of the bullets which my Ruger barrel needs. Turning out the driving bands will not do that. I am confident they will shoot better than the bullets I bumped to .460" as they are much more uniform. Will try them as soon as the weather cools.

There is a High temp copper colored silicone that I believe is rated to 785 degreesF. Veral Smith reccommends that. J-B Weld grey epoxy is also good to pretty high temps. I'm glad that what you are using seems to be working.

Great pictures BTW.

Just curious, what were the diameters prior to"beagleing" your molds and what were they after?. Frank

Hi Frank,

The boolits dropped at .460" to .461" out of my .458" Lyman 457-124 HP with one strip per side where previously they came out around .458" depending on alloy. The boolits from the RCBS 458-405GC dropped .461" to .462" after beagling. They were .458" before hand. They are not as round as originally but close.

I honed my lubesizer die out to .4605" and these boolits size and lube easily as they are air cooled ww + 2% Sn. They come out round and the Hornady gas checks still (just) fit on the shank of the RCBS boolit. Have not shot them yet.

I was still a little worried about the temperature tollerance of the adhesive so I cranked up my old Lee pot to #10 and cast some hot, partly frosted bullets. I think the old pot does not get as hot as it should but it was hotter than I have ever used it.

Two things I found were the glue retained its integrity and the boolits were some of the best I have ever made. Never have I tried casting at this temperature. Am I on to something or am I headed for a fall?

Glad that glue's working.

I didn't figure you'd exceed 600 degrees in mold temp. The blocks cool pretty fast. Sometimes not as fast as we'd like but still enough to keep the temp below 600 degrees.

Nice thing about it is that it's easy to find./beagle

And now for the thousands in attendance and the millions of tv viewers around the world,LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE. Main event will be Beagle glue vs Gorilla glue. Winner of this bout will get a title shot at the winner of felix lube vs SPG.

Ray, I suggest you keep out of the glue; that could lead to some embarrassment at the sheep pen.
