I've got a 5 gallon bucket of what I call scrap range brass. Some is stuff I reloaded too many times others is military (not steel) that I dont need or want to mess with and just an accumulation over the years.
I assume local scrap yards will buy it...unless they're scatred its "ammunition".
So I guess my question is....do any of you have experience selling it locally , any pitfalls, and what kind of price could I expect?

Here they consider it " fired cartridge brass " They pay $1/lb. They say it is dirty brass, the mills have to take an extra step to it befor it is melted into regular brass. What ever that means. I have called every scrap yard within 200 miles of here in 3 seperate states an they all say the same thing. The price varies wildly as well. from $0.05 to $1.00/lb.

But at the same time they will all pay you #1 copper for the bullet jackets.

Oh yah. Last time I took 3 buckets in to them, that was all berdan primed they averaged around 68lbs. That will give you an idea on how much for pounds and give them a call before you go and tell them what you have and the price they are paying.

I am in Dallas. Some of the dealers will not even buy it. The one I buy my lead from pays $1 for fired brass and sells it for $2.

I have looked at some of it with the idea of buying some. It is really nasty. I wouldn't carry it home for free if I had to clean it up and load it.

I got 1.60 a pound. The ultimate answer to "What is it worth" is this- it is worth whatever they will pay you for it. Sure seems to be yard and locale specific.

Yeah I guess Ill call first and ask....I would be tickled to get $1+ a pound. Maybe I can trade for scrap lead....last time I bought some they let me dig thru their box and I prolly got 20lbs of various solder with the 100 or so total pounds I bought.
